Frequently Asked Questions
What Does Deionization Do?
Deionization (DI) is the process of cleaning or polishing water. It usually goes hand in hand with reverse osmosis (RO) in a water-fed system. In the case of the Tucker cart, the tap undergoes a three-stage process. First, it goes through reverse osmosis, then to an RO membrane, and lastly through deionization housing for water polishing.
To keep your pure water system effective, you need to replace your resin cartridge from time to time. Virgin resin, which is the component used to remove total dissolved solids (TDS) from the tap, can wear out over time. You may check the effectiveness of your resin by using a TDS meter on your purified H2O.
How Often Should You Change Your Deionization Resin?
The DI resin can exhaust its capacity to remove contaminants over time. This is why it’s important to replace them regularly. However, the lifespan of a deionization filter varies depending on the quality of the water involved. If the supply has a great amount of TDS in it, it’s more likely to wear out your resin. It’s best to check the TDS level of your H2O. A high level should tell you that your deionization resin needs replacement.

How many gallons of pure water does the Tucker DI Tank RHG 20066-D distribute until I need new resin? I have the Tucker and like it a lot but I need something the maybe last a little longer for the Solar panel cleaning we do. The tds in my area is around 350-450 and we do them almost every day. Soon I'll be upgrading to a full 3 stage Xero RO/DI System with wfp but until then I just need a solid di tank. Thank you!!
With TDS readings that vary from 350 to 450ppm, a DI only system is not recommended. As little as 100-200 gallons would be produced before the DI resin is exhausted and you’re back to spending money on replacements. Save your money and invest in a multi-stage system, although there is a greater cost up front, the operating cost is drastically more affordable.

Does the resin have a life span? If unused for a certain amount of month? Or would it just depend on how much TDS has already passed through?
After about a year of sitting with no use, the resin will need changing.

Approximately how many gallons can you get out of this filter? Is it better for hard water or soft water or does it even matter?
Thanks for posting this question. How much water any DI system can produce is directly related to the incoming TDS. The harder the incoming water, the faster this will become exhausted. The softer the water, the longer the DI resin will last. Without knowing the approximate incoming TDS we can not estimate how many gallons or how long this or any DI system will last. Hope this helps.
