About the Petzl RIG Descender

It features clear rope guides and markings for quick setup, along with an ergonomic handle that offers a secure grip and precise descent control. The moving side plate can be opened while still attached to your harness, making it easy to pass intermediate anchors without disconnecting. Its AUTO-LOCK system lets you position yourself at a workstation without needing to tie off or adjust the handle, while the handle automatically returns to a storage position when the rope is removed to help prevent accidental snagging.

This descender offers two descent modes, either over the side plate or through a V-shaped friction channel for added control and reduced rope kinking. It can be used from a harness or anchor point and even allows short upward movements on the rope without engaging the handle. It also supports lead belaying techniques commonly used in climbing. Built to last, it includes reinforced protection in high-wear friction zones and an optimized cam shape that improves rope grip while minimizing device wear. 

Compatible with 9.5 to 11.5 mm ropes (approx. 3/8" to 7/16"), this device supports a working load limit of up to 140 kg (308 lbs) for one person and 200 kg (440 lbs) in rescue situations. It is constructed from durable aluminum, stainless steel, and nylon. Certified to multiple international safety standards, it’s a reliable choice for professionals who need dependable performance at height.
