Much like anything else in life, it’s a numbers game for me. Eventually your patience pays off.
I’ve gone through almost a dozen part time helpers over the years and I’d say 1 in 4 was humble and hungry enough to learn and grow with hard work. These few often stop soon because they find their own contracts. I pay $20/hr for starters and $25/hr if they show some gumption and diligence. 3 out of 4 barely last the day. Sad and pathetic!
Young people in general are lost when it comes to work ethic. I was raised by “you don’t work, you don’t eat. And if you don’t like what we give you to eat, it sits on the table waiting for your breakfast.” I’m afraid many of these kids would’ve just starved.
