Wagtail (angle modification?)

I own a wagtail slimline with an Ettore brass channel instauled on the handle. No pad just a channel. Just like the one in the YouTube picture below. I want to fan second story windows and transoms with a pole the wagtail way. Is the angle fine out of the box? What are the benefits of modifying the angle? What’s the best angle for pole work?

I own a heat gun. :open_mouth:

I think it’s just a matter of personal preference. I am happy with the factory angle on my PC handle. Seems to be about 40° but I could be mistaken.

Adding an angle arm will simulate a shallower overall angle and allow you to bring the tool even lower in front of you.

It seems OK to me as well. But what do I know? Haha

There must be some good reasons or people wouldn’t be modifying the angle.

Did this video about 3 years ago.
You will find if you have this angle or there about.
Will make it easier to use by hand.

Great video! Nice diagram. Should I change the angle if I’m only going to use it on a pole?

I have a ten inch channel in there to make small transoms and second floor windows easier to fan.

Once you have the angle.
It should be easier to use by hand.
On a pole you might want to use an angle adapter on the pole adjust the squeegee angle to the glass.
Adjust where it suit the way you use the pole.

What do you think about using the wagtail fixed angle adapter?

I’m asking because I don’t like the flex and wobbly feel of adjustable angle adapters.

Yeah just try it on a pole and see if it’s comfortable first before you modify. In the hand a shallower angle is preferable; kinks the wrist a bit less. On a pole, the only thing the angle determines is how far away from the glass you have to stand, and how low you can continue to work.

I personally prefer the factory angle since I use the PC only for storefront pole work. As-is, I can just let the squeegee drop to the frame and it closes out perfectly without even raising my pole arm. If I was using it to work lower, say for reaching torso-height windows over a hedge, then I would consider adding an angle arm or opening up the factory elbow to bring it closer to 0°

So … If it ain’t broke why fix it?

Same here. Just storefront transom work and some second floor office windows.

Actually did this video to see if the would be any differences using a Wagtail with no angle adjustment.
And with the 20 degree angle on the handle.
Using the same angle as the Wagtail adapter on a pole.

Herman: Great video! Thanks :sunglasses:

All can say is try it, if doesn’t; work for you just reheat put back to where it was.

Everybody has been very helpful! I’m going to give it a go with no modification for now. I like that angle arm video @HE_MAN and using it plain out of the box with no angle arm @Samuel. So I’m going to give those two ideas a try for now. Perhaps I’ll do a modification down the road. Glad to hear that I can reverse a heat gun modification gone wrong. Haha

You will not know unless you try.
Go to our
YouTube channel it has many different ideas and modifications old and new.

I probably will try a heat gun modification after I’ve fooled around with the tools out of the box and get a feel for how they respond.
