To squeegee, or not

Aint that the truth!

It all depends (several factors).
The only way to really know is to test. There are some accounts where all Iā€™ve needed was wfp and to this day not an issue or complaint.

Some jobs look like wfp all the way, but they look like garbage afterward and MUST be done by hand.
Iā€™ve done and still do first time cleans with a waterfed pole, I bid it for traditional tho.

Something like this is what I started with, simple and cheap.

I am in the same boat to squeegee or not. Seems sime customers are accepting of the idea, and some not at all. I am thinking of a Reach-iT with DI Tank or Unger DI only to get started.

I worry about customer reception right away amd how to get them prepped. Also, with a normal DI setup, is there ever a problem with pressure/flow for 2-3 stories?

And, what is the best route in terms of amount of hose and tubing needed.

More than a few people in the U.K. role with backpacks and barrels because itā€™s quicker on small domestic jobs than a van mount. Check out their forums.

There are Pros vs Cons for both methods.

You have separate pricing for wfp?

Higher or lower than traditional?

I honestly think its silly to quote for a different way of doing the job quote for worst case scenario then do the job as easy as is possible, No one needs to know the method of the madness, as long as the results speak for themselves no one will really care how u do it so long as your not wiping your ass cheeks against the glass.

Idkā€¦ I donā€™t ask my plumber how heā€™s unclogging my drain, or my carpet cleaner what vac he uses. When i hire a professional i just expect them to come do their thing and get it done. Thatā€™s why i hired them. I donā€™t care how they do it; in fact, I just accept that however theyā€™re doing it is how a pro does it.

I mean, how many homeownerā€™s actually use a mop, squeegee, and gg4? They use Windex and newspaper or something else silly. Why would they be married to the idea of us using a squeegee?

I am with you on that. I feel as if people think they are paying for people scrubbing each window by hand, ladder use, etc. And when presented with an idea that windows can be cleaned from the ground, that there is no way it can be done well.

You are the professionals, a customer should not dictate what method you use to perform your work.

Your price should never be cheaper because you save time with wfp. Although it more efficient, the costs/overhead, for equipment are 10 times higher than traditional methods.

You are losing money if reducing prices because you choose a smarter method.

I have a customer that showed me a bottle of gg4 and asked if it was any good. She typically has us do the outsides only and has the cleaners use the gg4 and microfiber towels.

Totally agree. What if you priced it for WFP and for some reason had to switch to traditional? Are you going to go back to the homeowner and ask for more money?

Very true!

Customer comment ā€œOh the windows look greatā€¦But they smell like shit!ā€

Those arenā€™t streaks on your glass maā€™am, they are skidā€¦

Do you discuss it with them first ? If so why, your he pro . That was never a thought in my process of switching over . I know some people want to ask how do you do it. When they ask that just tell them you have evrythignyou need to get the job done right , we have ladders ,we have squeegees ,we have poles , I come fully equipped . We offer a 100% gaurntee with our work thatā€™s the Most important thinhg right ?:grimacing:
This whole thing to squeegee , or not is a question that the the job at hand answers. If your a window cleaner a WFP is a must period, An to me sectionals are a must

You guys who run both the traditional way and the WFP - what makes you decide at a job which method you will choose?
Maybe a dumb question.
But is the time the most important thing?

For me, time and safety.

If Iā€™m cleaning a single story exterior where all windows can be reached with no ladder, Iā€™ll go trad and just destroy it.

If Iā€™m working above head height then the pole makes things much quicker and safer in my estimation.

I got my WFP a year ago after cleaning traditionally for 10 years. No regrets. WFP is not for every job. I generally donā€™t use it on houses that I havenā€™t done by hand before, meaning itā€™s good for maintenance. I just need to know that there is no stain/paint overspray, tree sap, hard water spots, etc. that WFP wonā€™t remove. Up to a year since last cleaning is OK, longer is iffy. I have houses I clean twice a year and some more often and it works good.
Pretty much all my work is high end residential and I have to uphold my high quality standard.
