SILICONE: Has anyone tried using a silicon squeegee blade?

I am developing a swivelling squeegee - add-on - for pole work - I’m looking at silicon for the blade - my prototype is exciting me - what am I missing ?

I believe Sorbo does… some love it, some hate it

Just curious. Why are you choosing silicone?

Me too. Why silicone?

Silicon is tough so it may be more durable …

and can be moulded … So we get shape options …

The rubber supply is meeting the rubber market demand.

I’m looking to see what we can do differently - not the same

That’s a few of my reasons …

I bet silicone will not nick as easy as a rubber blade. There are a lot of people that would be willing to try it out

I would be one of em…Perry, how do we get on board for beta?

That’s actually what was concerning me. I used Sorbo silicon for the first two years I cleaned. It would nick extremely easy. Sometimes within a few strokes even. Good thing it came in 50’ rolls!

However, I think you’re right, Perry, silicon is much much more slippery on wet glass than natural rubber. I liked using Sorbo silicon because it would glide so smoothly and didn’t require nearly as much downward pressure to stay even. It’s the case even on large panes with a 36" channel.

I’ve been using the Facelift RazrBlade Red for most of this year. Beautiful glide to it and feels and looks very different from all other rubbers I’ve used. almost a flexible soft plastic feel to it…a silicone formulation?

How does it hold up?

I’ve found it has excellent durability. I use it in both my 14 and 16 Wag dogeared Flippers. Because of the dog earing the ends can wear a touch quicker I’ve found with both Wag and Ettore Rubber. Not so with the Facelift. I think it’s because of the increased slip. You can squeegee with a really light touch.

Good to know!

So - tell me about all the details of dogear’ing ?

Should we be supplying a pre-dogear’ed solution, and if so, what are the rules, so we can engineer the tools ?

This is an interesting question!

We need to make 1 ton of extruded channel.

Each channel will weigh .12 to .18 lbs so - we have to ‘get it right’

If you could influence the channel, the ‘flip’ cloth, what works, and what should we avoid ?

Should we use bristles and water flow, under the squeegee, or do we need the surfactant of detergent ? Then we are back to a cloth …

This is all ‘swivel’ on a pole related as an optional add-on for RHINO APEX

My initial drive is to solve the solar panel cleaning market - but if , IF, it could solve internal window cleaning as well, it would be a bonus … And a worthwhile one, at that !

I like the wagtail slimline flipper…If you guys can do an improved version of that, well…AWESOME!

The wagtail needs a better cloth…you only use one small area of it, and that area gets really dirty and the rest of the cloth is basically useless. If you could do something to compete with that, it would be great.

Just so you know where I’m coming from, I’m not thinking WFP, I’m thinking traditional. I just got a wagtail Zapstream and have been very dissatisfied with it so far. If you could do a better spray bar design that directs the water better, I would buy it today!

Maybe you should get in touch with polznblades…he has been wanting to market some 45’d and dog eared channels…maybe you guys could help each (and the rest of us) out

Ok, I was following along until you wrote this. Are you doing a swivel squeegee for poling traditional style or are you doing some sort of hybrid wfp head?

My ideal wagtail would be a tougher handle, quick release, and a microtiger flip mop.

As far as dogearing, I wouldn’t worry about that as much as just cutting the ends of the channel at 45 degrees.

My initial drive is to solve the solar panel cleaning market - but if , IF, it could solve internal window cleaning as well, it would be a bonus … And a worthwhile one, at that !

And this statement totally confused me. Solar panel markets are not in any way related to internal window cleaning - I must be missing something completely.

For solar panel cleaning, I could see a market for a 24" or 36" boars hair brush.

Yes, my friend … I can see something… That’s my job …

I only look for niche opportunity- there are two - a dedicated, developed for purpose - solar panel cleaning solution ( it depends where in the world you are, the pitch of the panel, and, under certain circumstances, I believe a squeegee to pull the water off may be faster and better than a rinse )

The other is the internal pole solution - Microfibre or blade ?

I do allow myself the freedom to think outside the box …

So, just to get this straight, an FOC version of the wagtail is out of the question?..Please don’t say it is, getting all giddy about it!
