This is the ā€œother guyā€ bs story lol. I donā€™t bother messaging him back and he then msg me back 10 days later and now Iā€™m charging him $495.

Me: Give my quote/price
Response: "Well the last guy we had did it for [$160 less than my quote] but we havenā€™t been able to get a hold of him"
Me: ā€œWell, thatā€™s why. The price is too low to be sustainable for businessā€

Iā€™m starting to get this quite often. No, I donā€™t compromise. Sometimes, thereā€™s just some prices I simply donā€™t want to compete with.

I donā€™t really get this but when I do I donā€™t bother doing business with them. They tend to come back to you.

Bid a job for $480 (restaurant). The guy says ā€œSome guy I called will do it for $350ā€. I said ā€œcall them and see how it works out.ā€ Serious mange on the glass.

I took the job at $350 with a $75 food card.

Tomorrow, Iā€™ll be eating squeegee enhanced sushi! I hope.

So this guy calls me this morning telling me he will accept my quote, I am trying to place him, he tells me the address, for me to reply I never gave you a quote, oh must have been another Steve.
Can you give me a quote, sure I can I am actually headed your direction I can give you a quote this morning.

Get there do the quote , then he asks me about another company he used in the past but they are no longer answering the phoneā€¦
I hand over the quote which was $285, he rebuts me with Oh I can get it done for $170, I was pfft and asked for all I quoted and he said yeah.
I just exited the house and told him to have a nice day. I am kinda glad though at the end of the day, house was a mess, and was quite smelly.

@Garry, just out of curiosity, are you still cleaning this customer for $528 ?

Just wondering if they followed through and still maintained it through the year or not

i hate being stuck in a smelly house!

They sold the property. Havenā€™t landed the new owners.

I had one today. Felt good to be drowning in work and not caring if I get a piddly little job.

Me: My price for that is $130
Lady: The Last cleaner did it for $100. Would you consider $120?
Me: I would not.

Got the job.

I have the same mindset where I really donā€™t reduce my price.

Itā€™s not like you go to a local store and bargain for items there.

It seems negotiating on your price is more of a need for the work

One lady tells me I must not need new work if I wasnā€™t willing to drop my price by $60. But she also complains about the last guy not doing a good job cleaning the tracks. Emailed her the quote anyway, never heard from her again.

My problem is then getting and staying annoyed at people like that. Iā€™ll put on the friendly face with them but hate their guts for a few days after.

How are you guys getting these low ballers? By getting, I mean which marketing method?

Had a similar but not similar experience today. Did a CL ad for gutter cleaning, pointing out Iā€™m insured etc.

Had my prices in the ad .75/ft and 1.75/ft 2nd story. Guy texts back and forth for a few texts. Emailed a quote, ALSO including the prices per ft. Scheduled it for today.

I show up, measure the gutters and give the the number and got turned away because it was too high. I was kind of dumbfounded. In my head I was thinking ā€œare you f***ing kidding me right now?ā€ Outside, I kept my cool and professionalism.

we got tuned away from a customer we got from the business we bought. our price was about 20 to 25% higher than his was in so we told her the price and she said oh no thatā€™s too much plus there are two of you so itā€™ll take you half as long. I guess she didnā€™t understand that when two people are working theyā€™re getting twice as much done so 2 hours worked is 4 man hours.

It is a good feeling when you have a lot of work. Then you can pick and chose the jobs you want.

Had one today ask if I could drop my my price $68 to $500. I said I could remove the large cutup from the job and do it for $530. He wanted all of the windows done but wanted me to reduce my price. I explained that it is a lot of work and the price is the price. Scheduled for two weeks from now.

Home owners with less than 4th grade math skills typically canā€™t afford window cleaning, unless their husbands are rich.

Iā€™m in a small town that has lots of word of mouth activity. If I let lowball negotiators lower my quoted prices that could snowball on me. :unamused:
