Yellow Pages

How many of you here have invested in an advertising package with Yellow Pages? I have been called on a regular basis by one particular sales person. I finally agreed on a package for $99.00 a Month. I have had some success with the free listing,so I figured, give the paid advertising a shot and I could pay for the ad plus some with just one job!

But a couple things threw me off right after I agreed.

  1. While she gave the sales pitch, she mentioned (during the “recorded disclosure” that the fee was $99.00 a month…and it’s weird, I may have not comprehended her language, but she said the word…'Contract" but she never stated the terms of the contract.I should have been pro-active as I usually am and had her state the terms, but for some reason, I let that go over my head…my bad for that and it will never happen again! She never stated specifically that it was a year long “contract”. However, it did state that in the confirmation email…after I agreed over the hone of course!..I felt kind of duped…but oh well,it is what it is and I believed that I will get the business to justify that oversight on my part.

  2. Since I accepted the terms and got setup,I have had problems logging into my account. I log n and within 10 seconds,it boots me out…I can’t do anything…nothing!..I can;t even view my stats!..

I Emailed my sales rep three times and called her twice…so far, zero response…I’m about ready to flat out refuse to pay anymore on this “contract” because I feel like once they got my money…I am left alone on the side of the road…

Have any of you had this sort of experience with Yellow Pages?..

20 yrs ago ! in a previous career i signed up to be in the yellow pages book after a visit by a very pushy salesman . later the same evening i felt sick to pit of my stomach, id signed for half a page and it was an awful lot of money. Money id not got! So next day i wrote and cancelled it,sent my letter recorded delivery. Here in the UK theres 14 days cool off period. Anyway the salesman called up,furious at me. But i held firm and that was the end of it. Wouldnt ever spend money with them since.

You have 30 days to get out of a contract if you needed to(here in Ontario at least).

I should have paid attention to the red flags. She kept lowering the monthly price…and when she got to the $99.00 mark, I thought, well, one account a month will more than pay for it! I don’t like being ignored however. To me, it’s a deal breaker. I’ll look into the laws regarding getting out of a contract. I don’t mind spending money to make money…but be responsive tmy issues is all I ask.

What company?

This would be Yellow Pages

Did you get a contract and “proof”? Did you sign on the dotted line?

She did say 'Contract"in our recorded disclosure, but did not list the terms. I had a brain fart moment and for some reason misinterpreted what she was verbally telling me. When I got the Contract confirmation email,it stated terms.

Like I said…that’s on me…I accept that. But it’s being ignored about the issue I am aggravated over. It’s like they have the attitude of…ok,we got his money and he’s locked in…on to the next dumbass!

I signed nothing…she stated it was a “verbal recorded agreement”…I’m not so sure that would be legally binding…but I’m no lawyer…so who knows.

What are yellow pages? Oh those are the books that I have to move from the porch to the recycle bin…

Hey. They make great kindling too. My parents used them for stools for us when we were little as well. So many uses if you think like MacGyver

Yeah they’re just not as popular around here since we got indoor plumbing.

For what it’s worth…I’m NOT talking about the traditional Paper version of Yellow Pages…I’m talking bout the online version of yellow pages… YP.com

I have landed several accounts with my free listing, so I believed that having a paid ad for them would increase my visibility…and in turn, increase business.

For some reason I don’t trust yp.com. it wouldn’t surprise me of they bump you to the top of the search engine just to point and say look. You’re getting calls. Subscribe and you WILL receive more.

I’m just not sold on the value of it.

Thats the equivalent of signing a contract. Its how these companies do business.

If you are running a business you should know what a contract is. Every time a customer places an order that is a contract. When a customer says they want their outside windows cleaned, that is a legally binding contract. They can’t turn around after you did it and change their mind.

If you told them you want an ad, depending on the unseen contract terms and local laws, it could be legally binding.

I know what a contract is…I’m a pretty smart guy… Please read my original post as I stated it was a verbal contract, My question was not whether or not this was in fact a “contract”. It was whether or not there is a legal “opt out”,and I would say that depends on the State in which you reside. I need to look into that. If I do not receive what YP promised as per the contract, then I believe they will have violated the terms. The fact that I can not access my account or manage to get someone to contact me is a violation on their part.

As far as the terms of the contract, all she ever said in the phone was …Contract…She never stated terms verbally. I understand the concept of a Contract…This isn’t my first rodeo…I’ve worked for companies that did verbal and written contracts and the terms were always specified in writing AND verbally. The part that I am unsure is legally binding is the fact that terms of the contract were not expressed verbally. But as I originally stated…THAT is on me…I should have been pro-active and asked questions.

Yes…True…However, I do believe that the terms of the contract must be disclosed verbally as well…I’m questioning if just simply saying 'Contract" gives me a legal opt out.

But it’s looking like it’s all good…I raised some hell on YP Facebook and called the customer service line…and poof!..she contacted me today!

Yellowpages just got snatched up by Dex Media for $600m

So…update on the Yellow Pages fiasco…I continued to have problems logging in,and when that was finally fixed, I was able to get in and see what activity I had. it showed 7 clicks since I set it up! I have the profile filled out to max as well!..it shows up first in the listings and it’s a great looking ad…but 7…yes 7 clicks.

So,I called them and made them review the recording with the sales agent…and I explained to them how I only became aware that it was a 12 month contract after the fact…That I felt she misled me about the terms…after reviewing the recording, they granted my wish…they cancelled my account and the contract is null and void!..I won!..and it feels great!

Goodbye Yellow Pages!
