I’ve been finding that the slots or pins on windows with grids will quickly nick the tips of my squeegee rubber especially while divebombing. As a result i end up with streaks and have to change the rubber very frequently. Is there any technique to prevent this?
Just skip any annoying windows…
Just side pull those sumsabitches! Or do what Matthew says. lol
Some are cut out, notches right in frames which can’t be removed.
I don’t experience those much but when we do I squeegee close as you i can get to that edge without touching it, detailing the rest
Then I’d have almost no windows to clean! Lol
Then don’t dive bomb. Dive bombing is mostly useful for commercial. For residential as you come down you can go almost horizontal on your angle. Besides, who cares how many towels you use on residential? It’s commercial that can be a towel killer.
You just make the judgment call what is more efficient:
Taking frequent time outs to replace rubbers that also cost you money
-OR-
Permitting a small water bead at the edges and taking an extra second to detail each pane, thus saving your rubber
Straight pulls
Yeah i really gotta start doing more straight pulls. I love em for storefront, in particular the sevens technique. But I ironically kinda suck at them for smaller windows. I did a commercial job the other day that was built more like a small house with small double hungs and screens. It was such a pain to fan even with a twelve inch cause the windows were so small. Later that day i thought, “man, why didn’t i just straight pull?” Woulda been way faster and less frustrating, but having basically started with fanning i always forget. Fanning has been my go-to by default, but i need to expand my arsenal.
Or just don’t squeegee close to the edges and do some extra detailing
