Window cleaners *you're* doing it ALL wrong!

Your name and your headlines are all wrong. I saw some of your wraps. They are a bit confusing. I showed several women. They didn’t know what you do for a living. Logo and name is not the most important. Rather what you do or how you help is most important. Yes they look good to you.

Yes your peers love it here. Don’t believe them. They are looking at it from the wrong perspective. They say awesome. That is not what your potential clients say. They ignore it. They are confused. The same with your headlines when advertising. You are not big enough to brand yourself. Tell them what you do and why they should use you. Anything else is vanity and wasted space. And don’t put all kinds of cool graphics. Your client could care less and are left confused.

My wrap is not perfect but take a look. I learned a little too late. I would have used a more catchy phrase but 25+ years in tough to change. You on the other hand if your considering a wrap or lettering can do it differently. But even if you choose to go conventional like I did years ago just make sure it’s clear and readable. Oh and carpet cleaning is great profitable add on. Just saying.

I suggest you take it back a notch or you won’t make friends on this site.

Being on this site is a privilege and not a right and not sure why a carpet cleaner is on this forum

Look Jared. If you don’t want the truth then delete me. Good god I’m trying to help you. I tell you what. Listen to everyone who strokes your ego. Delete everyone who disagrees with you. See how far you get in business. And you wonder why your a window cleaner? … Just kidding I clean windows too. Just want to expand your thinking.

And add a little humor.

You have a weird way of helping people. I could spend my time making fun of your van or even your pleated pants that you are wearing on your website but I am going to take the high road and just let us go our seperate way.

When you have some constructive ways we can improve then we would all like to hear it and I am sure I can speak for the majority.

Wish you the best!

Your use to hearing “attaboy” or “yourtheman”. That does you no good. You (and me) need constructive criticism. Without it we can never grow. I was like you too. But then I let my critics run free and I grew like crazy. So it is your choice. Life is about choices.

What is success? Success is the progressive realization of a goal. But we all need a vehicle to take us to success, whether it be carpet cleaning or window cleaning. There are a ton of unsuccessful people walking around because they didn’t apply themselves or applied the wrong information. We can get there but we need to be jolted at times or we end up doing the same old same old. Doing the same thing we get the same thing. So if you want the same thing then delete me.

My kneejerk reaction is “who does this a**hat think he is!”. There are plenty of people on this forum who make incredible money, work a very flexible schedule, and love what they do.(who don’t have a wrap) That’s why I am a window cleaner. If you are coming here to stir the pot, good luck. However, if you really want to learn how to be a professional in this industry, you are in the right place.

What the hell? Some one mind taking out the trash? (Guess there is more than one person who doesn’t hold back.)

Wow Rob, from one smart *ss to another. I’m loving it but you may want to ease into the sarcasm and lecture a little slower. It’s an art form.

I don’t mean any offense. I just wish someone would have told me years ago so I wouldn’t have made the mistakes I made. I am over 50 it would have saved me a lot of mistakes and money over the years.

Soooo. What are you suggesting is the right way? It’s easy to tell everyone what they are doing wrong. How about some positive information?

I’m sure that you meant no offense. I’m telling you that it’s an art form and not a hammer or a ball bat.

We clean bird sh** off windows, you clean cat pì** from carpets.

  • Congrats, I guess… but I’d call that a tie.

BUT- your authorship markup is sweet, so… “credit where credit is due.”

I agree with your underlying premise. I think you are correct. Its easy for us to get caught up in our own "Brand". We treat our "Brand" like it is some kind of precious little ball of fluff. We stroke it and pet it and say......"ahhhh, your such a good little brand". HOWEVER, no one cares.
We need to explain what we do and why they need it. Thats it. We can stroke and play with our brand ourself in private.......not on the sides of our trucks!

P.s. I’m guilty of this very thing and have ran into MANY peoples looks of confusion when they see my vehicles. I am like, “Yeah…isnt my brand awesome?” And the person looking at me drive by is thinking “What the hell was that?”

Lol

This.

No one likes the new guy who comes in, guns blazing, lecturing everyone, complaining about the terms of service, and being insulting. Geez man, chill the heck out.

With that said, I believe you are SOMEWHAT right. We can miss the point with our attempts at “branding.” I do like your van wrap.

However, in this day and age, half the battle is BEING NOTICED. The “cool/awesome/hot” wraps in the other thread get noticed. That’s what they do.

Welcome to the forum. Hope you are willing to learn. You surely seem to have a lot to teach…

I’m sorry, but I fail to see how your van is any different, and all it tells meis that you do carpet cleaning and is “green,” like all the other carpet cleaning companies out there. Sure your wrap looks nice with those colors, maybe that’s the reason people should hire YOU, but I don’t see anything else that tells me I should choose you over some other “green” carpet cleaning company.

So, I’m confused, what exactly makes you different?

Because his company is “green.”
And his van has clouds on it.

… and I think he also prevents “floods.”

Most 5 star reviews in VA, tbh

I was having trouble reading all of these posts. Like many of you I was thinking “who the heck is this guy”? But I asked my wife and her friend, as a consumer, does the flashy van or truck mean anything to you? I was surprised by their response. They said “no”. Just the name, what you do and the phone number. A vehicle that is clean and tells what they want to know. I hate to say it but maybe Rob is right on.

What happens when you don’t have the most 5 star reviews in VA anymore?
I do get the point that what WE like about our service or selves means little except that it gives us an edge of confidence. It is hitting the target that counts, which is what do THEY care about.

Personally, Rob, I don’t think your words will have the weight they MAY possibly deserve if you storm in and treat us like idiots and not peers or even juniors with a little less experience.
