Why Does ANYONE Need To Pay For The ANSI/IWCA I-14?

Is this rule, being applied to ALL work you do, or more specifically this contract? OSHA rules apply to EVERYONE, not just certain contracts.

I think you are getting WAY more worked up over this then you need to be. It’s a 50 dollar book, so what’s the big deal? It’s a tax write off to boot.

No, it isn’t. It’s paid for by our taxes. Considering the level of inefficiency in the government, I’m willing to bet those docs cost us all a lot more than $50.

Hoosier pointed out that the $50 book from IWCA is tax deductible. If I’m going to pay for it one way or the other, I’d actually prefer to pay for it with pretax money, rather than tax money. (And yes, I know taxes are a lot more complicated than that. It’s not like the gov would lower our taxes if they decided to privatize the production and sale of all of the various industry safety docs)

Hopefully I haven’t just given you a different target to direct your angst :man_shrugging:

WCRA had this safety manual for $99. Nothing wrong with them charging for what they put together either.

Ok. Maybe I didn’t explain what I meant right.

It’s not about the couple bucks I would have to pay-because really I DON"T have to have the standard because chair work is illegal here anyway and the elevation at its peak is only 50’ so there’s no way anyone is putting a stage on it even if it did have equipment on the roof for it, which it don’t.

I probably was making a big deal out of nothing really, I was a bit ticked because I can go online and study up on OSHA reg’s. And in my opinion, anything that tells you how to be safe doing something should be free. Even if it was 10 pennies, it should be free. It’s like the sticker warnings and instructions (that also state ANSI standards by the way) that you see on your ladders.

I don’t even remember where I was going with this when I first posted it. It really isn’t this big of a stink I guess. I still think it should be free-a service to the industry-but at the end of the day no big woop.

As for getting other fed contracts…this isn’t even MY contract. I’m being subbed out from the Janitorial outfit. It’s in their scope to sub out to a window cleaner. Its GSA on a 3 year.

Personally I appreciate these customers.

I’d take a customer who requires safety over the norm who leave it up to the individual to complete the work as they want.

This can make a difference in our indystry.

Sure, of course. But they just used a template. It’s not needed on this project.
