Who works with their son/daughter or even family?

I’m in…

My daughter has worked with me since she was maybe 4 or 5.

Mostly over the summers or when school is out. I only take her to “friends and family” type jobs. That way if she doesn’t want to work she just hangs out or plays or something. Single Dad so you have to be creative sometimes. I looking forward to when she is 14/15 and I can take her to real work. I have to check the laws here.

But I will say this she is a great worker and a great helper. I worked with my Dad since I was 7 or 8. Worked with him on and off for 30 years until he died.

I think teaching your kids a trade and the value of hard work is sorely lost on todays youth. I always tell my girl that she never has to wash a window or house again if she doesn’t want too, she can choose whatever she wants to do. But they can never take a skill from you, so you’ll never go hungry.

Here she is washing Grandma’s house.

My Daughter and I, her second season. I also have had her husband for 4 years when he’s not working for the Forest Service, fighting fires.

You go girl. When I trained new, dumb as a brick janitors (young folks) I told them if you will learn these skills, you will never starve. You can throw your junk in the car and go make money. It is WORK. But now, I have thrown my window junk in the truck and go make money. I am reading all the trades are hurting for new blood these days because nobody wants to really work. Have never been on welfare in my life. Have done everything under the sun. Cleaning work has always done well for me. And…I love doing glass. To me, it’s art. :sunglasses:

My father started our company late 70’s. He passed a away very unexpectedly 1997 (I was 12). My oldest sister and her husband took control of the company. Now I’m also a part of the company and I often work together with my sisters sons who I have trained. Customers really appreciate the story when they ask questions about who we are.

how do you define all these terms?

I have taken my kids with me on storefront routes since they were little. My 17 boy is working part time servicing our storefront routes, my 14 yr old does some office work and helps in the field some, my 12 yr old daughter washes towels and I can see her helping in the office more, my eight year old old has aspirations of handling the phone.
I love the opportunities window cleaning gives for time with my kids - time with them, teaching, experiences, etc.

Companies doing more than $500K top line revenue. Companies who have employees other than family. Companies who have owners/partners with total owner benefit at $150K per year or more. Companies with good reputation in their community.

Just some stuff like that. Obviously varies for different markets.

I started helping my dad when I was a young teenager or preteen. By the time I was 15 I hated it and told him I wanted a real job. Working in an ice cream/espresso shop was way more fun for a teenage girl lol I continued to work for him off and on in the field and office. Now I’m very grateful that he taught me a trade and a good work ethic from a young age.

Bringing my 4 year old daughter on some route work this Friday. I know she won’t be of any real help, but I have to get a few jobs done, and she is REALLY excited to come and help out.

I am getting her her own little bucket and she can have my small set.

Babysitter is on vacation, and I had planned to take the day off to just hang out with my girl. But, she wants to work with me instead. So I figure, do a few jobs, and then head to the zoo or the beach.

I do think there is real value in giving kids a “job”, they seem to shine and have great personal pride.

Sure, when teenagers they may not want to do anything like it, but for now it is a nice way for me to spend time with my girl and get jobs done, in a very slow fashion. lol
