Side thought: $100k seems like kind of an awkward point of growth.

In most cases I would think hitting that number would either require an awful lot of hustle from a solo operator, or a solo op with a reliable part timer. Having a single part time employee, legit on the books, might be more trouble than it’s worth, if you’re only grossing $100k. The owner would probably be better off staying solo and bringing in $75-80k instead. Seems like employing a helper would become more attractive at around $125k gross, or more.

The exception, I think, would be a solo op with “free” help in the form of a spouse helping out with office admin and/or in the field. Then $100k should be acheivable as a team without running themselves ragged.

If an owner/operator is looking for a happy equilibrium to level off his growth and provide a reasonable living with limited stress, it seems to me like there would be more ‘comfortable’ dollar figures to settle on.

Just my musings, right now…

Im new to the business and am moving tomorrow the tampa florida area where i plan on starting my owe business doing windows there. Its great to see people with ambishes goals and even better if they can make there goal realistic. With that being said i wanna go in with a goal of 40 to 50,000 my first year doing a solo gig…im also getting into the business to have the flexibility of being able to spend time with my growing family. I see it as if i can run everything sucessful to where i can grind during the week and occasional weekends and can help support my family and have family time its a win win situation!! And as you reach your goals always set out new ones

I understand where you’re coming from but you can’t kid yourself and just because it’s a spouse still cant call it a solo operation it’s still two people.

Observation. People who talk about how money they have don’t have any

If people really have money, they don’t want you to know, your a risk

If I could offer any advice it would be to not shoot so high. I don’t know if you’ve cleaned windows before but it takes time to learn the trade. Even after year one you’re not going to be an expert at everything. The second thought if how are you going to find 40,000 in customers? How much is that going to cost you? What happens if you invest in a marketing avenue that doesn’t work out. Throw rocks not bombs.

I think a lot of people new to being a service industry business owner do not realize how difficult it can be, and time consuming, to sustainably build a profitable business.

Good advice and as i stated 40 to 50,000 is just a goal to shoot for as i know i might not reach it in year 1…hell mayne not even year 5…but a goal is just something for me to strive for and to make me grind harder and just to see progress is being made. I do not one bit think its going to be easy and never said it was but things that you tend to want to get out of life is never easy…thats half the fun!! But in my opinion my work ethic and drive is worth more to me then being offered 10.00 a hour and bust my hump while barley surviving…ill bet on myself anyday…and as far as marketing im not gonna put all my eggs in one basket…thank you for the advice and definitely somethings to consider
