Whats a fast and best way to get your first customer

So far nothing so i did a few craigslist adds anyone have a good phone script cause i also wanna spend time calling bushiness before i drive all they way there. thank u…

You have to go out and walk the streets and find your work. Knocking on doors, talking to managers, busting @$$. It takes time to find work, and even then, you’ll hear ‘no’ 50x more than ‘yes’

I went out to businesses and introduced myself. I then offered to give them a quote to clean their windows. Not everyone was interested. I didn’t care. I was determined to make this business work. I was hungry…very hungry!

Respectfully in short your asking the wrong question. There is no “fast” way. It’s important to be prepared to spend lots of time, effort, and money.

The most effective way to get new customers depends on the market you are soliciting. Every market has a different lifestyle and is therefore likely to make a purchase from different advertising vehicles and different marketing styles and or techniques. Add to that timing as well and that is also going to determine the response rate of your marketing approach. Different times of year it’s either busy or slow in terms of people purchasing window cleaning and that’s going to depend on your region of the US.

Take your craiglist ad for example. Craiglist might be a good source for you. The lack of response may have to do with the time of year, your ad design, your particular offer that may or may not appeal to the type of people who purchase from Craiglist, etc.

Your best bet is to choose a market and try to understand when that market is most likely to make a purchase and why. In other words you have to design and add and offer that appeals to that market and place the add at the right time to get a good response.

I would start with door hanger or flyers. Do some research and try to determine what markets (neighborhoods) respond well to door hangers or flyers. Then determine the best time of year. Then try to determine a good deal that might appeal to that neighborhood. Then go flyer several hundred homes and see what kind of response you get.

If you don’t want to pay for flyers then take a door to door sakes approach. Just try to determine the same variables for that approach etc. Get the point? :wink:

We all hate to hear no. Today I called an ex-high-maintenance customer to see if they wanted their windows cleaned again. People are weird. I have cleaned their windows twice. Once a couple of years ago, then again when they called me 3 months ago. That phone conversation was WEIRD. The husband yells over to the wife - “He’s still in business honey!” WTH? Whatever. Today I say “Hi this is … and I’m looking at my calendar, I have a few spots available, would you like to schedule your next cleaning?” Crazy ass husband - “No, no, we don’t need it” :::click::: What?!! He just hung up. If the wife calls back I will think about after first of the year.

So all of that to say this - Get out there, talk to folks, it takes time and pounding the bricks, you’ll find some A$$holes in the mix, but keep going.

Don’t take the rejections personally.

The potential clients might not have WC in this year’s budget, or they are content to have their employees shmear a few windows or they just don’t care about WC. So just smile and thank them for their time and let them know you will be available in case they change their mind or their f they know someone who needs WC.

Craigslist will get you work (and so cheap) but won’t get you clients. Get on a computer and type in "Window Washing by (your name here) Call Now! (phone number) make into columns in microsoft word so you can fit 4 ads on a single sheet. Copy off a bunch, cut them and then hand them to anyone who is behind the counter at the strip malls. Having a price on the paper and in your mind will be a huge help. I started at a buck a pane per side for storefront. Bring your tools cuz you start tomorrow. This is a whole different world than that of an employee. No safety net except you. Go get it.

Store fronts are a bit different than residential or commercial. It is usually much less per pane.

Guys all have their own formulas for how to price. Some by the size of the glass area to clean, some by pane, some just by how much time they think it will take.

Likely the simplest for a new person to price, would be by the pane. I would suggest using a factoring of some sorts. Say, a small pane is 50 cents, normal size pane at 1 buck, and maybe 1.50-2.00 for really large panes. Those prices might be right for your area, too cheap, or too expensive. But at 1 buck for the average size pane, you will most likely get work out of that.

After your first couple of cleans you will see how to adjust your pricing. A suggestion would be start resi @ $4 per window. (There may be 1, 2, or more panes to it; learn the difference between “window” and “pane”).

In the beginning you must be aware of your new found ability and speed.

Just like the first time you mowed your grass was a bit sloppier and time consuming than the 20th time you mowed your grass.
