What would you guys do if it was a fellow WCRA member?

Edit: I ask because I recently found out someone here that (I won’t mention who, but you’re probably reading this and spitting out your drink) has copied wording and layout. Most of it word for word. Part of me is like “ah shucks” they really like what I had. I know we’re in completely different markets, but a “hey would it be cool if…?” would have been nice.

How do you guys find out about this stuff?

You can copy and paste segments of your copy into Google search bar. Thats how I have found MASSIVE copying in the past. Ive had guys clone my whole website. It totally sucks. Especially when you put a lot of thought in care to the copy on your site.

I would just talk to them…

To learn the reason why and the true back story…

I don’t understand why people don’t want to be original. My whole life’s perogative is being me.

I was going to message him but…
I probably shouldn’t have even wrote it this morning, because I probably won’t do anything about it. I have no super hard feelings about it. If the person wants to reach out to me so be it.

No, they probably aren’t. That’s lower than a whale turd. And they know it. I’m building a site right now and agonizing over content. What to write, how to keep it unique, how to make it compelling and still sound natural. It’s stealing, call him out publicly, like how he stole your content.

Depends. I’ve had individuals use my screen washer design to build they’re own. Eh, I’m fine with it. If they’ve got the skills and the time, what am I going to do? So I don’t worry about it.

When businesses copy my design, it sort of bugs me. In the US I could issue a cease and desist, but internationally, what am I going to do? So I don’t worry about it. It’d be nice if they just said “We can’t ship your thing all this way so we had to build our own version. Sorry.” Either way, I don’t worry about it.

Regarding website content, there’s all sorts of evil things you can do with sql injection, cross site scripting, and what not. Of course you run the risk of an FBI investigation if it’s across state lines, but whocares because hacki… I mean magic!

I wish I could be like you.

That’s the thing that bugs me a little; we pay around $200 a month for ours.

Yeah I imagine it would be a weird feeling to be in your shoes. Myself, I have no website or Facebook page. And if I had to come up with one, it would overwhelm me. Some of y’all have killer sites and I am thoroughly impressed with what you put into them. I would likely look to your pages for ideas that I can emulate. But direct copying is pretty foul.

When I did my flyers, I scoured the internet for ideas. I admit that I took some of the phrasing from different ones and worked it into mine. But I look at my stuff as original and unique to me. I could never copy someone’s word for word with out permission.

Perhaps the designer of the person in question copied yours. It wouldn’t be the first time. Maybe reach out to the individual and see what they say.

At the very least, they are not trying to steal your business or trade in your good name. Silver lining I suppose.

I just checked real quick and looks like I got one too. In LA. Called worried bird window washing. Says he’s an IWCA member, but on their site they only list 2 outta LA and I know who both of them are.

This guy LOOKS legit in his work photos and has a nice truck setup, but some of the stuff he gives for free don’t add up.

With his commercial clients he INCLUDES FREE hard water stain removal. FREE.

He gives up to 4 FREE touch ups between services!

Either thats a load of deuce or this guys got some money to burn. But the whole cut and paste thing leads me to believe he’s a new booty.

If you are a member here or reading this, please chime in and shed some light…oh and you didn’t put an address for your contact page either…may wanna look into that.

It’s crazy how much people will rip off word for word others content

Oh ya the guy that took our old site just replaced our name with his and even kept most of the stock window cleaning photos.

Or what if someone copied your logo ? What would you do ?

Sheesh. That stinks. Are you getting it resolved?

Btw - I found your video on using steel wool real helpful last week. I’d never used it before and figured a tutorial would be in order. Thanks for the instruction.

Be really pissed off.

If anyone wonders why I stay autonomous, for the most part, it’s not so I can be a jerk. Everyone always thought it was so I could be an ass. Na. There’s so many biters out there…

I was born at night, but I wasn’t born last night.
