What Size Roof Rig Do You Use?

I am looking at buying one for my business and want to know what size you guys use.

I’ve used the 8 foot wheel base with the 3 foot outreach in the past and it was such a pain to move. I really want to get the 2x4, but i’m worried about getting in the thing and having enough outreach. Anyone have luck with the smaller roof rigs?

I use the 2x8 MIO roof rigger. The major down side that I see to the 2x4 is having to haul 500 pounds of weights up to the roof! What a pain in the butt! The little size is great, but all that weight would be a major deterrent for me.

Same here.

Anybody us these made by versabeam? What’s your input or experience? Looking at getting one. What do you think @anon46335951?

@Rockward , you buy one of these last year? Just curious how u like it. I own one, but you really need to build a shelf for the feet to sit on to prevent sliding off edge…yikes.

I did not end up buying it, i like how versital it can be by the pictures and the one video i saw on youtube. Yikes! :fearful: did you experience it slipping on you and thats why you built shelf for it? How often do you use it?

Yep.
I try to use parapet clamps and existing anchors on buildings first, versabeam is last choice…so it’s really only used 3 or 4 times a year

Ive always just used rope protectors or carpet and never had any issues, but im looking for other options to assist on going over edge instead of crawling and scraping knees and elbows lol. Im definitely getting the clamps, ordering this week, but fighting myself on wether to get the mio roof rig or the versa beam.

I’m with ya there, I use the old floor mats from my truck (upgraded to weather tech), works perfect.
In my opinion, the versabeam is just as difficult to climb into as going over the edge. I used a friend’s Mio once, it was awesome. Just sit down and descend, no scraped knees! Definitely the better choice, just expensive

They are pricey but i see the benefits, so itll be worth it especially if i get a good deal on a used one. The thing that i like about the versa beam is portability, thats a big winner in mio book.

Would you consider selling yours?

What is the point of them, I very much doubt any of those would be allowed to be used here, especially if your using it as an anchor.

No, wouldnt use as anchor, you have to tie back to certified anchor to use.

Its just another way to access a building, some people use, some dont, its preference. Do you use any rigs?

I never have, there was one building I delivered some ropes to some other guys were doing they were using a rig that HAD to be used to get them over the roof glass balustrades and then position them out beyond the awnings. but the rigs were only used as a diversion no force was ever attached to them.

I never have either, i like the idea though. I see the convenience of having one. Thats why im looking into getting one. At the same time though i keep thinking that its just more equipment i have to take up and worry about.

I need it for a job coming up this spring, and I like to have it in the arsenal “just in case”. Appreciate the offer tho
Let me know if you pull the trigger on a Mio, be interested to hear how u like it

I will let you know what i think of the mio. I like how you have an arsenal of equipment for whatever job comes your way. Gotta be prepared 🖒

I see it another unnecessary piece of gear. I like to make 1 trip if I can. Kit bag on back chair over shoulder/bag then rope bag with 200m of rope on top of other shoulder. Bucket in other hand. One trip ready to rock. Exclusion zone set up before we carry gear to roof. On the job I mentioned the rig was basically a davit arm, for positioning.

What I noticed from the pic is if that rig was shock loaded with the timber edge thing would not survive the force, at the very least cause the rig to slip off the roof.

Anything that adds another point of potential failure needs to be constructed to the forces it might have to deal with should the crap hit the fan.
