What do you do during the winter?

Winter work

We have our routes that go out daily…

We do residential when it allows…

Pretty much business as usual in South Carolina. January slumps a bit. We do pool construction/renovation and that usually gets going then. Weather isn’t a problem, it’s the mood of the clients. A little chilly, spent all that money on the holidays etc.Going to try some new mail offer this year inspired by Chris’s August campaign.

It’s also a time for me to have everything put in place for March through December. Equipment, Sop, marketing, budgets and all the fun stuff.

Same ol same ol. Hat gloves maybe wet weather gear when PW. Gets colder, that’s about it.

I did vote “Hibernate and live off the nest egg”, but I do restoration work, and now shower enclosures and screen repair.

I make sure Im set up for the winter tho. If its bad, I just sit around in the studio making music and do a lot of SEO stuff.

Gotta live comfortably lol

Small storefront Route…Brrr!!!

Glass Restoration, Shower enclosures and such…

Interior Painting. Residential and Small Commercial jobs.

That’s good

I’m busy all winter long doing storefronts. That’s the upside of doing storefronts. As long as you consider cleaning windows outside when it’s only 15 degrees an upside. haha

Storefront route 2 days a week. A little office cleaning. A rare residential here and there. And always hoping for that elusive super-snowy winter so I can clear roofs.

Hey Mike how many Storefronts do you do, how many days a week?

It’s over 80% of my work now. I make more money doing homes but I just enjoy doing storefronts.

I whine about not having any work and when spring is coming. Thats pretty much it.

The plan is keep the full timer busy on route work, residential monthly and quarterly accounts I’ll help with and spend time with my wife and kids the rest of the time.
Play in the snow if we get it, make a snow man with my boys.

Warm and no snow… Golf

monday bump.

Id love to see some more votes on here.

nice!

my kinda thinking

A quick glance in the rear-view mirror:

Last year was my first official year in business. I had a smattering of Fall/Winter cleanings and small remodel jobs right up to the week before Christmas. That was unusual for me as I was accustomed (from my construction days) to everything being dead in the water from Halloween to after New Year’s because practically no one wants someone working on their house last quarter of the year. But I was still paying for the company’s insurance and tools out of my own pocket.

Looking out the windshield now:

I had a slamming Spring (for me) of my “day job”, window cleaning appointments, and other side jobs. That made for 100+ straight 14-17hr work days. I consider myself extremely lucky in that my day job hours were allowed to be flexed to meet appoinment needs; I have a part-timer who is NEVER late; And my wife who, although she says that she hates cleaning windows, understands my drive in all of this, cleans by my side, and isn’t about to let me fail.

The company has been paying for its own tools and supplies this year. We have a small bi-monthly account, and a few 3xs/yr accounts that will allow the company to make its own insurance payments thru the winter.

Still have to work the day-job as we haven’t really paid ourselves since I tend to put almost every $ back into the company’s well-being and growth. We’ll use this Winter to prep some EDDM mailings for markets we’ve identified in our travels. There are graphics to be applied to the van for higher visibility; A 35 gallon holding tank to install in the van with all the trimmings for our WFP attack on the Spring; … Oh, and Thanksgiving/Christmas cards to send out to all of our clients.

I would to.

Difficult to get this in the poll:

This year: 1 day/wk janitorial, possibly launch Glass Renu, some marketing streamlining, hourly wage remodel work for the remainder.
Next year goal: Nest egg/hibernation/business systems & marketing streamlining

I finally brought the Wash-it inside today because things are starting to freeze. I’m going to get the Ski Doo out of storage, get the skis waxed, hockey league has started, and now more time to spend with my dogs in the office (yea the wife too). YTD my gross revenue is up about 6% over last while cutting 30% off what I paid out in wages from last year! Guess I’ll try figure out what I did for the next 6 months.
