We can stop scratching glass!

The first step is to read, “A Glimpse of the Ghost Particle”. It is in the Glass Smart Blog. The problem is much greater than even we think it to be! Next we have to give up razor blades. I don’t have any affection for GANA. But I have a tremendous love for my fellow window cleaners. Next we need to focus on ways to identify problem surfaces. The tin side is the most problematic. Since there are many different types of problem surfaces we should learn how to identify the different types. Then we need different products based on soft abrasives, and powerful green solvents.

I will be bringing out two brand new products this week. Plastic Chew One and Plastic Chew Two. They can be blended with various solvents to Chew thru paint, wood stain, and cured silicone caulk. Along with other stuff.

Please send me an email if you would like to know more about Chew One and Chew Two.

Here’s a question: have these formulas been tested yet on titanium oxide coatings, aka ‘self cleaning’ or ‘low maintenance’ glass? How about hardcoat low-e?

The Andersen ‘low maintenance’ window coatings are quite common around here. Super frustrating trying to remove anything more stubborn than basic dirt.

No Alex. But I do know the particles are around 5 on the mohs. And I think TiO2 coatings are fairly hard. Glass is 7. Low E coatings will take on streaks from a razor. Steel is a 7. I do need to do some testing. I want to use brand new samples for this. Which I should be able to get from the glass shop. Do you have any specific coatings you would like me to test?

Thank you for bringing this issue up. It IS a huge one!

We were working at a home where our customer had Andersen put in $235,000 in these type of windows. She had all kinds of issues with installation. On the day we cleaned them she had 3 reps from Andersen. I took it upon myself to ask about cleaning the exterior of the glass. He said he’s telling people not to even use dish soap or any other type of cleaning chemicals. Just spray with hose.:rage:. I later told the customer I didn’t agree with him, and she mentioned that she tried the hose and it started leaving mineral deposits. I was going to WFP the job, but after the reps left we just did it traditionally. :grinning:
