Underbid a buffet. How risky is it too go back and give the right bid?

I think it’s more risky to be sweating a job you don’t have. Because if you do, you’ll be sweating ALL THE TIME. You get maybe 1 out of 5 bids. On a good week.

For what you described, $200 isn’t that far off the mark for route work. And if you think it’ll take you 8 hours… route work might not be for you. $200 @ $65 per hour = ~3 hours or so. You get there early, get your squirt bottle so you don’t bring a bucket in, a bag of towels, take care of inside near the tables, cut a squeegee to fit the frenchies exactly one swipe, THEN do the common glass area, then lastly do the outsides. Over time and with practice you want to get that job down to 2 hours.

@JaredAI Thanks. Yeah it will take me that long because I am brand new. Maybe not 8 hrs but I just am planning for that just in case. Once I get faster I shouls be able to do it at least twice as fast but I need practice sinxe this will be my third job ever. I may just go ahead and take it at 200 bucks. It would be ideal for them to let me in overnight but im not sure if they will let me.

Well, spend the next couple of weeks in front a window. At least 4 hours a day every day. That’s what route is so you might as well practice like you’re going to do it. No towels, just mop then squeegee then repeat. After a couple of weeks of that you’ll be more confident.

Same thing with a pole, it’s one of the most important time saving tools for route work!

I constantly get guys with 1-2 years experience who cant use a pole.

We teach right away.

I have an account that I can do overnight. It requires alot of pole work and I can take as long as I want its great practice.

Practice using it with either hand at the base of the pole.
Also learn to squeegee with your weaker hand.

I agree with this perspective.

@Gary with what I described how far off was I on the bid in your opinion? Im not sure if they would let me in there overnight but if I could get in overnight it would be a great account for me.

Did you write on the card in/out 2x a month ?

Or just 240 2 x a month ?

Word of advise stay away from Cut-ups With route Work. They’ll never pay for the time it takes. I jace a few cut-up route jobs, An as a matter of fact just picked up 150 a month account 2x a month. Only Becuse it’s from an existing account , An it actually works where it is located , but other than that i never walk into a cut-up account an ask if they need service.

@Majestic66 200 twice a month. Initially 240 once a month but she said once a month isn’t going to anything. If they want a weekly price im keeping it at 200.

I’m not on board with the others. You made a mistake it happens. Tell them … I made a mistake with my pricing I’m really sorry !! I can , An will honor my price for 3 more months of time , but moving forward after that I will Have to get x each time , Ill understand if you chose to part ways hopefully you will see the value with my new pricing if not no hard feelings

@Majestic66 How low am I at 200 in your opinion?

sorry guess im just weird.

too me it screams incompetence

especially if you offered the proposal unsolicited

like others stated word does travel

btw there’s a reason their windows are nasty they’re pigs lol

we used too maintain their floors and they never wanted too pay. i tried too warn a buddy who got excited about landing the acct this year, he’s in the process of filing a suit haha

I think I’ve said this a few times in the past to you Jonathan, and I don’t mean to be rude. But you are overthinking everything.

You are new. You will be slower than this time next year. Your quality will likely be worse than this time next year as well. And you will be better adept at bidding this time next year as well.

Don’t obsess too much on pricing and whether you are a fudge too high or low. Give a price. Get the job. Get better and faster and reassess this time next year. Think about every job that you ever learned. Think about the first few months and how much you learned in those few months. Apply that to window cleaning and let’s just get too work.

That said - live, learn and try to have some fun on the way!

@TexasRich Thanks man. Yeab its just in my nature to overthink things. My wife tells me this all the tims. Thanks for the motivating words.

120 french panes inside and out - $120

for the 71 windows, it depends on how big they are, 71 of these (inside and out)?

-$284

71 of these (inside and out)?

$142

so if its the latter, we would be at $262 but depending on the access you could still be profitable at 200 and it’s a great starting point if your just starting out and you can raise it 10% a year until it’s just right

we do a dentists office that we got when we bought another business, it has 75 panes, we do it in 23 min for $60 i’m gonna bump it up to $75 in feb but we still do well at 60

@leavingnc They are closer to the size of the windows in the bottom. Thanks!

I don’t find that type of restaurant to be worth while to me. Lots of dirty windows, mostly wanting someone cheap.
That said…French panes at a restaurant or storefront, 50¢ per side = $120 in/out; 71 other windows @ $2 per side ($4 in/out) = $284; $120 + $284 = $404 in/out.

$4 for route? That’s awesome.

I’d be at 120 French + 140 = 260 but French can be cut down if you fit a squeegee. So 200 is low but not a deal breaker. I’d probably be at 2 hours.
