Triumph scrapers getting brittle?

I’ve been using the Triumph SS scrapers for over two decades. The past couple years they seem to have changed the steel used and the corners snap off rather quickly.

Anyone else notice this? I’d use the thicker ‘red’ blades but they don’t conform to glass as well.

I’ve noticed this in the past year or so

I sent an email to JBF the manufacturer in Denmark, will post their reply soon.

Yup. I thought it was just me. And the scraper bodies don’t seem to lay flat on the glass either. Oh and the stainless razor blades sure get rusty quick.

I switched to the Unger ninja scraper and Unger blades and it was night and day.

Really, Unger? Hmm.

Love 'em. Pricey. What’s not.

Think I posted a similar question quite a while back - they do seem a lot more fragile than 10 years back, think they thinned them out.

Someone bought Triumph stainless blades off me not too long ago and said they rusted out very quickly. I thought maybe they got confused with a pack bought from some other supplier. Well this is on the one hand is disappointing but on the other hand, Unger stainless are my best seller and cost significantly less than the Triumph.

Yeah, it was really weird. I’d go to get a new blade from a new pack and I’d have to throw out the first few blades before I found a good one.

The unger blades and be used, put away wet, ignored for months, and still look good.

Here’s the reply:

"We are sorry to hear about your experience and feeling as regards our products.

JBF A / S is the manufacturer of TRIUMPH scrapers and replacement blades, and we have our own production at our factory in Denmark.
We at JBF have a very high focus on quality through all our processes. Our products are developed with professional users, and we only use steel from European steelworks. Our own production of scrapers and blades - unlike other scraper manufacturers - means that we have full control of the products before being sold to users (checks, samples).

If you (and your staff) have been using our scrapers in combination with our replacement blades in many years, we can understand that you know our products very well.
However, we do not understand your feedback as regards your notice that you feel that the blades are much more brittle and that the edges tend to snap off much quicker than usual. I discussed that we our production manager, and we cannot understand that at all. We can guarantee you, that we have not at all changed our kind of raw material of the steel - neither our processes.

Sorry - we are not able to give you a more accurate answer of this issue.

Med venlig hilsen / Best regards / Mit freundlichen Grüssen
Margit Sigaard"

I use my 5" Triumph scraper very rarely. I bought the stainless steel blades because of the rust issue with carbon steel. The stainless steel blades have not rusted in 2 years. Sofar.

Are you keeping your pack of blades somewhere with constant moisture?

On another note, I do notice that the stainless steel blades are very stiff on the glass to the point where they miss swathes of construction debris. Carbon blades are more flexible and seem to adhere to the glass in a better fashion during strokes.

I go though them like candy! Corners snap off way too easy.
