Finally got out to clean some storefronts with all the bad weather last couple weeks and within the first ten minutes “you missed a spot” and “you can clean mine next” showed up. Guess they were holding on to that for too long

You can clean mine next gets a card. Like quick draw McGraw and a “in case your serious, I do this for a living” turned a couple into customers…

I tried but I think they were just blowing smoke. I did get a customer who wanted his windows done in the spring.

Here is today’s job, I used to do it monthly until about a year ago when they decided to get their general cleaners who also cleaned windows to do it. I found out they were never able to sucessfully clean the awnings, tryed once and looked as bad as when they started so never did hem again.

Back on as a monthly (whole building in/out) so I’m told be nice.
However I was really disappointed I left the glass in the pool for the very last task as its quite hot here and getting paid to cool off in an infinity pool while cleaning half a dozen panes of glass is normally a dream, I get in the pool and its now heated IN THE MIDDLE OF SUMMER! the pool was 92 degrees it was only 88 out of the pool, I got in it and couldn’t wait to get out it was hotter than what I went from.
I last cleaned it in June of 2016 and had to wear a wet suit being in the middle of winter.

If too many leave the sills like that it is too big of a loss to take. I have an office I do, two floors interior. Full of cubicles with glass. They know to pull all of the taped messages, pictures, and diplomas off the glass (many put that stuff between the glass which has a pull out section), if not I skip it but it stays on the invoice. It is a 7 hour job and we have an agreed amount and prior notice of day and time.

I would personally skip whole floors and still charge them for my time if they were given notice.

I’d rather deal with spending a tiny bit of extra time and clean majority of what I was hired for rather than deal with the repercussions afterwards work it out on a negative note.

Missing an entire floor for this reason for me is just not caring. There are simple and time efficient solutions to deal with the issue rather than skipping areas completely.

The problem lies within the particular tenants, they think they own you and are your boss because you are working on their floor, they purposely do not move their shit and ask you to wait while they do, 5 minutes waiting at every office and you are telling the building manager that due to THAT particular floor next time the price will increase by 20% lets see whether those particular tenants are there next clean, I would doubt it.

What city is this in?

Communication is key. It is mentioned up front that the price for the job is $X,XXX, and any inaccessible windows are skipped, which includes personal obstacles that would require a lot of remove/replace on the window cleaners part. Want that window cleaned, make it accessible.

Simple solution: Have conversations and understanding with your customer so that you can get in, get the job done, and get out.

Got to be my least favorite work, removing painted windows, especially when inside with carpet.

Paint on the inside Windows, oh fun!

What cleanup precautions do you take prior to paint removal to protect the walls and carpet on a jobsite like this?

Drop cloth on the floor that covers 4 windows at a time and just work slower to eliminate any splashing. Seems a slower pace is beneficial,
eliminates drips and need to clean the walls. Working with 2 hands using the applicator to collect most of let’s falling before it has a chance to.

36 windows done in 1 1/2 hour

Thanks for sharing your precautions and process Jeff.

What’s your up charge for removing that?

Its part of a monthly we do at a local hospital $1125.00 for the monthly clean.

Removing decorations is $360. Based on $10 a window. Its an annual thing they do where each department gets to decorate a window. Been doing this one for 18 years.
