Storefronts and plazas

What is common practice when doing plazas or storefronts as far as the inside windows’ decals and signage? Do you remove them and reapply them, do you have the customer do those things, or do you simply wash over them or skip those particular windows?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

When you write up their proposal, give them a price for i/o with them removing their things, a price with you removing their things, and an exterior only price.

The established companies would not remove posters etc from windows but send out a notice that these items must be removed by client prior to cleaning or they would be cleaned around.

This should be industry standard.

I’ll remove one simple thing i.e. an “Open” sign with suction cup. But if it’s a gas station with 47 different things scotch taped to the windows and doors, then forget it. Outside only.

I agree every situation is different . If it’s an easy sign or two I’ll take them down and hang them back up. If it’s a million signs with tape every where outside only. If it’s a single paper sign that I can manage to squeegee around I’ll do that too. I’d just approach each situation differently , and try to make it easy for you while still providing great service for the customer

In the past and not distant enough past, tbh, I’d take off everything I possibly could and put it all back up in name of thoroughness. Nowadays due to being a little crotchety and very realistic, I realize that to do that for the ‘ideal conditions’ price my profit is all but gone and any store owner that expects this to be done no matter what is either unreasonable or doesn’t value your service. So I will take down and replace the easy and safe stuff and work around the rest.
Something that has made it way easier to work around junk are cleaning pads. Somewhat of a game changer for me in that area.
As for giving a price based on the store owner taking obstacles down, I won’t do it. I’ve found that even those who truly intended to cooperate just don’t get around to it or stop doing it.

I usually have some clear tape on me from the .99 store, just incase i rip the tape in the process of removing them, it looks better than asking them for tape also

What specific brand and type of cleaning pads are you referring to? I’m curious.

I take them all down but I don’t always put them back up. Carrying a small roll of tape is a great idea, thanks.

This is my main implement, though it doesn’t hurt to have a few of the fluffy washing pads as well. I simply spray an appropriate amount of solution (di water/rubbing alcohol) and work it through with the pad. The Unger pad holder which has a euro fitting is excellent, or you can use an acme version as well depending on what pole tip you are using. It takes a modest amount of practice to get it down, but when it goes well it is enormous.

I agree every situation is different . If it’s simple I just take care if it, but if it’s a lot of stuff I have then move it .

If it’s a new stop your picking up . You need to address this from the get go. We can do the exteriors for 2x a month an insides 1x a month for $75 , when we do the insides we will just notify you the week before we come , so you can get everything off the windows ,an get everything moved for us. This let’s them know your not responsible for moving things .

I just picked up a 1800 flowers I gave them a 2x a month $45 exterior only cleaning price. An said " when you want the insides down let me know you can move everything for us, an we will get them done for you , an we will just charge you $25 to do the insides." Now they know it’s there responsibility not ours

I picked up 2 hair salons they wanted both in/out every week , am both of them had product against the windows. I let them know before hand your going to have to move everything before we come every week. What I’ll do is call you in the am before each clean so you can remember . I call them each week in the morning, it’s a little bit of a pain cause sometimes I forget , I have gone ther and nothing is moved , but they get it done fast for me.

As for neon signs that's on us just be careful go slow , an if need be have someone hold them back for you. There is a place I clean that has a monster of a neon I never do it. Not worth it for me .

Also with posters with packing tape . Forget it I never take those down I go around it . You have to remember one week it could be there , but the week before it wasn’t there. So packing tape doesn’t get moved I go around it, or don’t do it st all. Scotch tape is a different story it’s easier to take down without destroying there poster.
If I take it down I put it back up. There not always there so to me leaving a poster somewhere is wrong.
One thing I don’t do is get trivial . If it’s simple I just do it. Leave everything the way it was.
