Sticker Logos on windows

Hey everyone. I have a job later in the week and the owner of the building wants me to take off the stickers on the windows. I don’t know what to call them but like they are for a restraunt and I don’t know the best way to get them off. I was just thinking a razor and solution would take it off but my sure what you people have run into. Thanks again: )

A picture would be great.

If you plan to use a razor blade that much on any window be sure to test it first to be sure you not scratching or you’ll have tons of scratch marks in the location at the sticker was.

Are these new construction stickers or stickers the restaurant had placed on the window

I used a heat gun to get pesky stickers off once. The razor just wasn’t able to swipe through the glue without heating it up first.

It was inside the store lettering from the last tenant. Heavy duty store front signage

I’d second what these fellas just said. It really depends on the type of sticker and how old it is. Have they baked in the sun for 30 years or are they relatively new vinyls? If it’s vinyl lettering you may be wise to just get under a corner of each letter with your blade then pull off with your fingers. Use hot soapy water, blade in corner, peel off, then hit the remaining adhesive with steel wool. The rest is basic cleaning.

Sometimes it’s that easy sometimes it’s not.

We used @Beautiful_View recommendation with great results:

Amonia is great for breaking down all kinds of adhesive. Spray it on, if necessary cover it with a plastic trash bag to do let it dwell the scrape/ peel/ scrub the rest off. Let the chems do the work.

Thanks for the advice

Usually razor is fine. If it’s heavy vinyl the heat gun helps. If it’s store front glass it’s probably already scratched so I don’t usually worry about a waiver

How much do you think I should charge to remove the signs. I think they are a vinyl that’s been on the window for about 3-4 years

Ask them to let you take off one word. Sometimes it’s very very easy.

Is this a regular customer? As a general rule they don’t appreciate being gouged on price for these types of special requests. If one word takes ten minutes they’ll be more understanding and you’ll know what you’re getting into

Goof off oil flow but I love the way I blade now using this new way and never get a scratch now even on a dry window!

interesting setup, although from my experience it is better when blade goes almost parallel to window

I’d use fresh razor blade, one strike with pressure at the time, use cleaner solution if too hard (wet is better, just make sure you dry blades afterwards or they get rusty quick)

Looks dangerous, is it any different from this?

That’s because it is dangerous!

Phil knows all about traditional razor scrapers. Perhaps he’ll post the video where he uses it. It performs differently. Better!

That being said I would never give it to an employee…

May be a good idea to stop posting these pics and suggesting you can’t scratch glass by somehow putting a razor blade into a squeegee handle…

Fabricating Debris doesn’t know or care whether your razor blade being held by a squeegee handle, a pair of pliers, or between your teeth.

You may be wrong about this. I’m sure Phil knows what he’s talking about. He’s been around the block more than once as a window cleaner.

We’ve all been talking about fabricated debris for I don’t know … over ten years now. Remember Gary Mauers old email forum. The good ol days!

How much should I charge per window to remove it?

“How much should I charge per window to remove it?”

That depends how long it’ll take. I don’t think anybody knows how long because some jobs can take … five times longer than easy jobs with the exact same amount of letters.

If you can’t give it a test try just gamble with a guess. How big is the job? Can you loose your shirt if it takes five times longer than you thought?

I charged fifteen dollars for one window a couple months ago and it was EXTREMELY easy. The sign was on the window for a year or two and peeled right off. Took fifteen minutes.
