Solar Panel Hard Water Removal

Cleaned some panels today that are positioned on a heavily landscaped hill. The sprinklers are beating them up. The customer asked if I could get the stains out, but I honestly had no clue. Wouldn’t an abrasive damage the anti-glare coating? I told the homeowner I would look into it and get back to him. Called a local solar place, they said to try vinegar (I hate when people say that), and that they did not know of anything you could use that would not void the warranty. Anyone else ever deal with this?

It sounds like a good time to “pass”, to much liability in this situation.

Justin,

If there is an anti-glare coating on the exposed surface such that you would would be working directly on it you must first find out precisely what it is. Then I would buy a square of it from a local glass shop. Maybe even the manufacturer of the solar panels. Then I would test whatever chem/abrasive/product/system you were planning on using. If it showed no visible damage in the direct sunlight at every angle you would be one step closer. Bottom line here would be to build the time for your tests into the quote for the job. Get paid up front for your research time however. So if you don’t get the job you are not left without compensation for your time. If you know me you know I have ideas. But I also am in contact with people that have much more hands on experience then I do. Much more. Send me an email if you would like.
