SKRUB Revisited

Still have about 20 eight ounce bottles of this. In order to get around the problem of what is called respirable microcrystalline silica abrasive powders I blended one very special product with pure glycerin. No water! The formula was about four parts silica powder to only one part glycerin. I mixed with an electric egg beater. This is the thickest compound I have ever seen. You can add a teaspoon to a gallon of cleaner to cut through fingerprints using just water and a very mild soap like cocamidopropylbetaine. I have added some to a sodium hydroxide water solution along with 0000 steel wool to cut through the worst screen stain. It ate it right off leaving gleaming glass. Using a watered down compound on a sponge I have been able to remove light hard water spots by hand without a machine. So SKRUB does have a lot of different uses. But the key is to mix the dry powder with pure glycerin so it goes directly in water and will not leave a residue on glass. It also eliminates the potential problem of silicosis of the lungs. It is not easy to buy dry silica powder anymore because of this problem. That is why if you look at the MSDS for the Diamond Magic product for example it lists silica as (non) respirable.
