Screens & tracks

I am there to make money and give a satisfactory service not for people to come out and go hey look at that technology.

Where Iā€™m from there is no way that a quick scrub
and a blot-down, will do the job. Too many leaves, cobwebs, cotton, ect. If you donā€™t get it good and wet, scrub it, and rinse well before drying it will leave dust. It seems to me that a quick little scrub and blot may not leave soap, but itā€™s not gonna get all the dust off, the dust will just dry back on there and will show streaky in the sun. But if where youā€™re at the customers are happy with your work thatā€™s all that matters, I just know that wouldnā€™t fly here, just wouldnā€™t get it done. Like I said, my customers specifically like a good washing, and so Iā€™m gonna get a proper screen washer this year because itā€™ll be more efficient and customers will like it.

Maybe have something that is portable be able to move closer windows as you go???

I bake it into the price in one nice easy cake to digestā€¦

Once you learn how to clean them quick, itā€™s really not a problem.

Get one of theseā€¦

Its about leaving an positive impression that they will boast to others about, my screen cleaner has landed me jobs just because I have it and a customer sees the value in paying to have their screens cleaned.

Taking all the screens out at once gives us a chance to quickly inspect each window before we get started and move anything out of the way like furniture or curtains, etcā€¦

At the end when weā€™re putting the screens back in we double check every window and make sure everything is put back into place and that we havenā€™t left anything behind.

This is not a waste of time if you are correctly
pricing your services. I donā€™t care about being fast. I care about being efficient. And this is the most efficient method I have found. in my opinion, of course.

Still have to get me one of those screen cleaners. Just getting going again so itā€™s on the list. Screens can be time consuming and cleaning old mesh can lead to it tearing if you get to aggressive with them - especially ones that have a lot of exposure to sunlight. If theyā€™re old and need rescreening Iā€™ll see if I can upsell that. Otherwise Iā€™d just steer them into a quick brush. Theyā€™re still going to look bad when they are done anyway. If theyā€™re in good shape and they want to pay extra to clean them then Iā€™d do it in a batch. Mark them and clean them before you get far along so they can dry. Every job is different so depends on how you do it. I personally donā€™t like to carry a huge collection of tools on my belt, so if itā€™s an initial clean with tracks that hasnā€™t been maintained good chance Iā€™d do a basic clean first and get the heavy stuff off first - frames and tracks cleaned, glass just soaped and fanned. I wouldnā€™t worry about making the glass perfect at that point. Do the exterior then finish up detailing the interior glass and install the screens as you go. Done.

A little more time consuming perhaps than just carrying a bunch of tools with you everywhere you go, but seems easier with initial cleans that are excessively dirty. Easier on your back for sure. Most residential jobs I only carry a 14". Maybe a 6, and a 5" champion. And like Sethfenster said, removing all the screens gives you a chance to inspect the glass. Good to point out any issues before you clean a window if you can, imho.

Iā€™ve worked with many different Window cleaners over my years , an everyone of them did it the same way
First thing we did on every job was take all the screens out .
All the upstairs screens were taken out ,an put by the front door
Who ever takes them out puts them back. Why !!! Because they have to remember the order they were taken out
So whoever cleans them donā€™t mix them up
The downstairs screens were all pushed out an then whoever cleans them puts them right back were they found them
Or if the downstairs windows are done put them in.
Last thing we did was put the screens back . Still till this day thatā€™s the way I do it !
I use multiple methods for cleaning. Sometimes I brush them ,an wipe the frames , sometimes I use my power washer, sometimes I use my screen cleaning machines , sometimes I use a hose

I donā€™t understand what you guys are doing when you say I clean them then put them back ?
Are you hanging out the window ?
