Removing Storms from 2nd Story

So what would be the best way to remove storm windows from a second story home. The resident wants her storm windows removed permanently. Access with a ladder is relatively easy but I’m wanting any opinions on how to bring them down SAFELY! Thanks to all who can help!

Take the glass out from the inside and remove the exterior frame from the outside. They’ll be pretty light without the glass.

Hopefully the windows will open easily enough to get access to those storm panes. If not are there any other suggestions?

You can remove them from the outside but as has been said they will be heavier. If you have to remove them from the outside then I’d do it from scaffolding. It would be way to dangerous from a ladder.

If the storms are not going back on and you can’t get inside to remove the windows, then you can remove the bottom part of the storm frame, usually four small screws, unless theres a spacer bar , then remove that first
Once the bottom rail is gone then just remove the storm windows thru the bottom,
If the sill is in the way just remove the screws holding the bottom half of frame on the window and bend the frame out

Thank you so much for posting this question! I have the same project tmw! I’ll need to rent a ladder and a cordless 1/4 impact driver so that removing the screws will be quicker…
