Removing staining/oxidation from window frames

Anyone got any proven methods or even suggestions for dealing with the ‘damage’ in each photo?

well “proven” would be difficult as that would only relate to the exact problem on an identical frame but:
tsp is very good on vinyl frames for general dirt/stains apply and scrub with nylex or hogs hair brush
scott’s outdoor cleaner is pretty good and has a whitening effect aplly and scrub with hogs hair brush
rubbing or polishing compound will take oxidization off, apply with sponge or cloth wipe/polish with cloth (wax afterwaards for a longer lasting shine)

some vinyl frames actually become discoloured though and may not be restorable to white.

Valid point! These are powder coated aluminium I think (2 separate properties) and both are dark in colour, so might try to avoid whitening them! The polishing compound suggestion has been mentioned on another thread, presume this is the same as supplied in auto stores? Will give that a try on an inconspicuous area.

yes rubbing/ polishing compounds are availble for fibreglass or paint and i’m not sure if they are actually any different.
there is definitely a difference between rubbing and polishing in that “polishing” has a finer grit.
re the scotts outdoor cleaner, it uses hydrogen peroxide (oxyclean) which is more of a brightener than regular bleach.
could it be hard water stains? in which case the rubbing compound might still work or barkeepers friend.

Try a test patch with One Restore???

Is that damage from bleach?

I don’t think we have access to it here (NZ), but it sounds like it would possibly damage the surface anyway?

No idea! Sounds like one of the properties was previously owned by an over-zealous individual who hosed down their windows daily, so anything is possible. You can actually feel the ‘damage’ as it’s turned into a deposit on the surface.
