Release forms for posting pictures of your work?

Hey guys,

Hope you are all doing well. Recently I’ve been pondering about having some type of release form for people to sign if I want to post pictures/video of the work I did at there house. I haven’t come across any problems but it wouldn’t hurt to stay ahead of it before it becomes a problem.
Any of you guys make your customers sign something saying it’s ok to post a photo or video you took of the work you did in order to promote your business?

Never asked because it was always outside of the house (but I don’t do many houses anyway…just don’t see how it’d be a problem unless it was photos of inside the house or they were in the photo, or the address was showing or something and you put their name with the photos…other than that, wouldn’t it be the same as taking a photo walking by anyone’s house?

its 2017… Does google ask permission?
Most people are being caught on camera over 100 times a day without their knowledge, its pretty much these days you take the photo you own the photo.

Dont think its an issue worth addressing.

It’s always a good idea to ASK first.

But unless you are taking pictures of the home owners or their possessions inside the home, I don’t see why you would need a release form.

I did a house recently, owned by a painter (nationally recognized), and I would not have taken photos IN his house, because of all the art hanging inside.

IF you are doing video testimonials, can see needing a signed release form. But for pictures, what are you going to do with them other than use them for business promotion? You aren’t selling them.

For a while I didn’t when I had my business. Then I started to use Nicejob website. You publish your work photos to your site and from these “stories” or micro blogging you could send out a review request email. As I started doing multi million dollar homes regularly and you know these home owners can get worried about images of their homes. I added a line to our terms and conditions that were sent out in our emails (scheduled appointment and appointment reminder) sent out via Housecall Pro CRM. This an excerpt from it:
"•Expert Window Cleaning may take photo/videos for marketing, promotions, or employee training. Typically exterior only photos or videos will be taken. Any interior photo/videos we will ask permission priority doing so. If you don’t want any photos/videos taken please let us know ahead of time."

It’s the same as papparazzi. You have every right to. Google earth shows everything anyways.

The customer will appreciate it, if you ask though :slight_smile:

@Streakerfree good idea

All very good points. Really appreciate it. Your right I think outside won’t be an issue but some of the pictures are inside the house. So looks like just asking about the picture before hand might be best.
