Pricing question

I received a call this morning from a maintenance and construction company. They want an estimate on the 4 LA fitness locations in my area, outside glass only. I don’t have a water fed pole yet, so I will be doing it all with squeegee. How would you price something like this? How would I quote a maintenance and construction company vs. how I would price it if LA fitness wanted a quote themselves?

Thanks in advance!

I once had a maintenance company ask me to quote a job and possibly have more jobs going forward. As it turned out they were looking for how to price the window cleaning portion and then do it themselves. :-/

The only other time I offered a quote for a cleaning company was one a friend of mine works for. His company was snail trudging through molasses slow on payment, so I would only deal directly with the business who needed the windows done after that experience. 5 years later I still do those windows once a year - big job.

Anyway - moral of the story, be sure they aren’t phishing for a price structure.

I should have been more informative. The guy who called me went to school with me, I knew the name, but don’t really remember him. I asked him how he heard of us, he said a friend of his sent a screenshot of my facebook page, and he told me he would like to give me the business because we grew up in the same township. Not sure if that makes any sense or not. It didn’t really sound like they are trying to phish for pricing, but then again, I could be wrong.

I wouldn’t price it any differently if it was directly or not.

Why is a maintenance/ construction company taking the bids?

Yea, they will be looking to tack on a fee for themselves on top of what you quote. Don’t short yourself so they can fudge the price. You will be doing the work after all, so get what you need out of it.

I honestly didn’t ask why they are taking bids, Jhans?

Garry, I kind of figured they would add a “finders” fee to the bid.

They will likely Mark your price up but I wouldnt discount your price so they can also make money on it.

If you did a lot of properties for them that may allow for a slight discount.

I’m still new, is $1 a window for lower ones, and $2 for upper ones a price I should quote on those, or should I quote higher?

If your state requires you to collect sales tax for your services in this case you would not collect sales tax that maintenance company would collect the sales tax but you would want that company to fill out the proper tax form for tax exemption for that job. An audit would ask why you didn’t collect it and require you to have your paperwork in order

Yes, the work order they sent me says the tax exemption form is available upon request.

Would imagine starting per window be above $2 . What area

When I worked for LA Fitness they liked to keep all their cleaning (including windows) in-house, so that’s curious.

How frequently do they want the windows done? Are they in good shape already?

If it was a monthly thing I’d probably price it $1 per pane on the lowers, $1.50 per pane for anything I needed to pole, and $2 per pane if I had to crawl around on that overhang to get the entrance windows.

Western NY

They are in pretty bad shape. They only want the exterior done. To me, sounds like just a spring cleaning.

Price it nice and high then. Make sure it’s worth your time. If they don’t go for it, too bad for them. LA Fitness is a multi-billion dollar company and they can afford to maintain their clubs.

To answer your specific question. I would charge $100. Nice round number.

WindowCharles, that seems way too low, especially since I have to climb up on a ladder in a high traffic area. I decided to quote that specific location $200. If I get the job, awesome! If it’s too high for them, I’m OK with that.

I would have been 100 range as it seems like nothing is two difficult and from what I can tell you can walk on that over hang pretty easy. But I would only do 100 if it was a monthly commitment and 150 for one time clean as I would think I could do it in 60-90 minutes. But if there is a lot of scrubbing or some razor work then 200 is about right at the time adds up. Good luck on the bid I hope you get it for the 200.

Right on. $200 is also a nice round number. Good luck.

I would be about $150 considering there are four locations.

I personally would not consider using wfp on that either.

Recommend to follow up in a few days after you submit your bid. Sometimes you’re able to find out where your bid compared in price which is helpful for your future bids in your area
