I was asked to removed some crusty old tint of a doctors office this friday, this tint it super crusty and stuck on there like glue! i have numerous scrapers including the super scraper. I was also gonna use some alcohol or acitone to make it a little easier along with my window lubricant.
Anything else i might need to take into consideration?

First, have the customer sign a scratched glass waiver. Then, put some undiluted ammonia in a spray bottle (I wear a respirator and make sure the room is well ventilated), spray the tint liberally then apply a piece of black plastic (I use trash bags) on top of the wet ammonia. Let it sit a while (at least 30 minutes) when you go back to the first window, get a corner started with your scraper, and SLOWLY pull the tint and trash bag off the glass. If it starts to get harder to pull, spray more ammonia. Sometimes you might even have to do a combination of additional spraying mixed with pulling and scraping. After you got the tint off, I apply my regular solution and scrape and bronze wool the glass before squeegeeing. This is the best method I have used, and I have tried oil flo, heat guns, water and scraper and even dry scraping. This process works best for me. I hope you are charging accordingly!
I have a tint removal job today, I’ll try this method and take pics as I go along.

you think flat glass film is difficult? try removing cheap film off a car back glass with a rear defroster. You can use a steamer to remove it I have not tried it. I use High Sheen foaming glass cleaner from cr lawrance. It is a mess but it works. The key is to let it soak and keep it wet with the cleaner or ammonia. Best way to remove film IMO is to save the old window film liners i use and sandwich soaked newspaper between the glass/film and the liner. longer it soaks the easier the film will be to remove. window film does have pores just like our skin. the pores allow the water to evaporate after installation and will also allow chemicals to soak through. this is why the film company’s recommend that we do not use harsh chemicals on film. Just hope it is quality film. cheap film is a major PITA to remove because it comes off in tiny strips. In this case just let the cleaner soak overnight. Good luck and make sure to charge by the hour or you may get in a bind.
