New windows with protective plastic covers

I have to quote on a job tomorrow for a customer who has had new windows installed. She can’t get all the protective plastic covers off or the residue they leave behind. Anyone got any experience in best way to tackle this?

All the ones I’ve done just peel off. Some shred I little but no big deal. Don’t give her a price until you’ve tried removal on a few windows…

Either she just doesn’t want to do it (a good thing) or the film has been on the glass for some time (too long).

Like Matthew said, try a couple of windows before pricing and taking on the job. Adhesive can be taken off with goo gone/goof off/ titan oil flow and maybe a little steel wool if necessary.

If the film has been on too long, this will be a PITA job, so price accordingly.

CAn be a big deal after they bake on , Denatured alcohol does the trick

Thanks for the above replies.

Checked them out today and there’s about 25 mid- to large windows. She’s got the plastic off 3 windows but there’s still some gum left behind. The other’s look extremely time consuming, if attempting to remove by hand. I may have to resort to the razor but am reluctant as the windows look bloody expensive - one scratch and that’s a week’s wages down the pan.

I checked out the MSDS for Goo Off and there’s some nasty stuff in there, so may keep away from that. I may try the denatured alcohol (I’m assuming this is the same as Methylated Spirits - I’m in Australia).

I’ve attached a couple of photo’s for info.![20180918_122315|281x500]

yes they are the same. You may want to be careful of it too, as it’s poisonous like other things. Use nitrile gloves and safety glasses.

scratch waiver

I’d bid hourly
