New logo VS old logo

Ok guys. Here are two logos. One is the new one one is the old one. Which do you guys like better? (New is on top)

  • New logo (bowtie)
  • Old logo (man holding house)

New.
The old one makes me think I have to eat a dollhouse, godzilla style.

The new one is either a spaceship or, well, something else.

i get what image youre trying to get over-the servant look

but i hope that when you actually turn up at a job you are anything but a servant. youre scruffy and quite unfriendly in fact [but still do a very good job]

Sorry they both are horrible… let’s just go ahead and hire someone to help with this one. It looks like you downloaded a free app to design it… no go bro

Ok, good points. They both kinda suck, if you can’t tell what it is I messed up for sure.

What i’m trying to do here is make it simple and unique. Every window washer and their mom has a squeegee or window in their logo.

I’m getting rid of the old one because when it’s any smaller than the above picture (thumbnail size) no one can tell what it is.

Do you guys know of any logos that work when small, are unique and simple? (window washing logos) What would you say is the best logo on here?

And don’t logos usually have little to do with the actual service/product? Ex. apple, Snapchat, Starbucks, etc.

I really want it to be memorable, even if it means it’s bad! Although obviously I’d rather have it be good and memorable!

Anyways, thanks for the feedback as always guys

its actually quite distinctive

your company name is Butler window washing, makes sense, any graphic artist is first going to illustrate based on the name (what’s distinctive) vs the “what you do” (not distinctive amongst competition)

many use their last name, so if there isn’t a person drawing or caricature of a person, then what they do gets illustrated instead (squeegees and swipes etc)

if your name had a “V” in it, it would work design wise and letter wise (since it looks like a “v” from a distance)

it is a simple and clean logo and fits within a square and a circle, so much easier to work with in any kind of media/avatar use

there used to be a window butler franchise, they had a caricature of a butler carrying a ladder

I think it’s going to be hard to top the original logo!

The idea is great… just get an artist to spice it up. You’ll be happier with it. The problem is they appear too flat IMO, I think you have a cool idea aNd a graphic artist can help bring it all together.
Paying an artist for a redesign is on my list in the next 12 months… I saw what one did for @TonyC and I love it!

you should do a butler holding a squeegee. (im partial to “squeegees” !) next time i’m in photoshop i could make one for you.

I agree. Do people reach for a Coke because the logo is pretty? No. It’s just memorable… and not because there’s anything remotely special about it. I would reckon it’s purely because we’ve seen it a billion times. I would say most logos aren’t works of art. I remember for years, ever since i was a kid, in fact, hating how ugly the AT&T logo was. So i think you have a point. Memorable, simple, and easily printable, stitchable and paintable are really most important. I highly doubt you’ll lose a customer because your logo is ugly or gain one because it’s beautiful. Have you ever picked a company for those reasons? My logo isn’t a work of art (but I’m a major fan of simplicity) but i recently gained a customer because i had a logo and the competition didn’t.

So, while i agree that your second design isn’t the most aesthetically pleasing, it is technically going in a better direction than your first one. I’m already imagining it on a business card. I’d mock up a few more designs based on that concept. Perhaps, veer away from the drastic V-shape. I bet if you widened the base, eliminating the point and making it more of a trapezoid, it would be perfect. The idea you are shooting for is a simple one and i think you’re not far off from having a logo that’s both effective and nice looking.

Most people remember great customer service, communication, and perceived value. Become “their” window cleaner and your job is sucure.

Remember what we say about do-it-yourselfers trying to clean their own windows and gutters: We roll our eyes and wonder why they waste so much time and end up with an inferior job, instead of calling a professional who will do it correctly.

We all have experienced this, and yet we all forget this when it’s time to use graphics. We will either use bad clip-art (nothing screams “Amateur!” like clip-art) or we attempt to use our limited design abilities to draw one ourself. It gets more difficult because when we design something, our creation becomes one of our children and we fall in love with it and become blind to our its weakness or amateur-ness. Since we’re not designers, we don’t even know what to look for.

VERY FEW of us are as gifted with Photoshop or Illustrator as we are with a squeegee and it shows in our home-made logos. I’m personally above-average as far as Photoshop ability, but a zero when it comes to creative design, composition, color selection, font choice, etc. All of that stuff matters a lot! My attempts at a logo were lame and ineffective.

It stings a bit to write a check for a few hundred dollars for a logo (“It’s just drawing on paper. Why should I spend $700 for that!?”), but it is absolutely worth it! Don’ t use the cheap-o $5 logo places. You get what you pay for. Many of those “Pros” use clip-art. Find a real graphics artist and spend the money. You will not regret it.

A good logo goes a long way toward the perception of professionalism. Once you’ve done the work they can then confirm your a true professional. I cant say it will make your biz successful but we do so much to have an edge over the competition. Might as well put time into a logo we will use for years.

I agree that neither is good enough but the new one is better.
Getting a good logo is easier than you think. Try upwork.com

I think a hand holding the platter in silhouette, with your business name in an elegant font. Sort of “served up” on the platter might be the ticket.

Is it a squeegee or a platter? type thing.
