New CCU..$5 a window..WTF?

Did a estimate on a new $700K-$800K house (before the 6 inches of snow thats in my driveway right now! LOL). Nice Pella windows. All relatively easy to get. The ones that couldnt…can be tilted in. Not too much crap on them …but there was some. Gave them my estimate along with paperwork on FD and scratched glass. Educated them pretty good on the subject. Got a call 24 hours later they are going with a “guy and his son” from next county over for $5 per window. I couldnt believe it! All I said was “I hope they are insured”. I Wasnt ****ed at all…just left me shaking my head.

Anywhere between 5-8 dollars per window seems to be the going rate for residential window cleaning in my area.

How will insurance help?

The other guy might not be pricing it as a CCU.

It wont really help them…but I always say that to a customer to put it in thier mind and remind them…that I AM insured and LEGIT

Tony …I was thinking the same thing…he’s in for a world of hurt…so is the customer

For CCU?

I don’t know
I don’t charge extra for CCU. I bid over the phone.

Your joking… Right?

Trevor,
I have been doing ccu for a builder in Del Sur getting $15 per windows, I hate doing it but its $500-$700 a home everytime I do it I think it’s the last time because it’s a hassle butthen again I’m a sucker for $$$

Regular residential yea $5-8 a window and this last week had a 4500 sq foot home call told her $400 she hung up
a 3600 sq foot $289 she “was still calling around”

a 3300 sq foot $259 he balked

so I honestly don’t know what to charge at the moment

Brian, how did these leads hear about you? Obviously not your ideal customer, haha. So I’m just curious if you fliered or mailed to them??

Brace yourself because we are all going to see a lot more of this. There are many people starting their own window cleaning business because they have lost their jobs or are under-employed, and hey…how hard can it be to wash windows?

They will be using the “Price Strategy” to pick up…er…take customers away from the rest of us.

We will all be “adjusting” our pricing for some situations just because the competition is picking up.

all the homes are worth over 750k so they would targeted but
2 service magic
1 internet search the 4500 sq foot

In 2009 Servicemagic did great for me. My low priced competition discovered it last year. I’ve had residential leads shut off with them since May of last year. I turned them back on for about a week this last spring. Got 10 leads and no jobs.
In 2009 half the battle was won if you were the first to call the customer. That doesn’t seem to matter in my area anymore.

I had a bad experience with Service Magic, doubt I will do business with them in the future

On average I charge $4/$5 per side in Florida, recently I found out that one of my competitors is charging $3 per side which made our bids about $90+ apart. I can’t back pedal $90+ so I just inform the HO of the quality of my work and all the extras of cobwebs, wasp nests, corners, frames, screens, brush-vacum-wipe tracks and leave the decision of quality to them. Who knows, maybe next time they will call me again and say - “I know, you told me so.” I land all but a small handful of the jobs that I quote. Usually those ones that I don’t get are simply price shoppers. Luckily they are far and few between. Plus the ones who hire me generally go for the quarterly or bi-yearly clean as well.

So a double hung would be $16-$20?

Not saying that’s good or bad. Just trying to understand your statement…whether you mean $4/$5 per side per pane, or $4/$5 per side period.

Best bet is to not let greed take over, I agree with around 5-8 per window however I charge by the square foot and the per window takes care of itself, just sounds cheaper and the more the customer runs around counting windows the more they get cold feet. Adjust the per square foot amount by what area they are in, houses in La Jolla have more windows than houses in Mira Mesa and so on. Honestly I just schedule some people without even giving a quote
