Need to vent a little

I 100%did not sign anything … I was also one hundred percent happy to make someone money as I learned , but it needs to level out in the end…it is presently unbalanced.

I started with $45 ,3 years ago . My first 2 checks went to buy ladders and equipment. You know how to clean windows , just have to take a dive for it . You can do it !

Ok , I don’t know your financial situation . You can maybe start to get jobs on the side on your day off . Once you have the ball rolling you can take a dive at it

I am a 225 pound male… Not very jugsy haha…false advertising…
Thanks for the advice guys. I’ve been feeling negative, and I’ve turned it around mentally to being thankful for the frustrations… Or else I may have decided to settle into a comfortable wrong direction

Change your mantra to “I’m the biggest baddest window cleaner in all the land” and prove it on every job with service and attitude.

Well, I hate to revise my old thread… but I wasn’t signed in , and was browsing, and clicked on my own post haha. I only worked one day after the day in my original post… it was also a nightmare . Window job in the am… schedule said 9… homeowner said it was 8… she was correct, so that was a great start… did the inside, she had to leave, so didn’t have time to do some high inside windows… needed a ladder set or 2… my partner started downstairs… I started upstairs… he missed about 6 windows somehow, that I discovered doing the exterior( he is the bosses wife’s brother) … next job is gutter cleaning, pressure washing and exterior windows… we get there around 1… my partner insists he has to leave at 5… I tell him repeatedly to get picked up by our boss, because, as usual, a "quick " job is nothing but… the gutters had a metal cover that covered about 85-90 percent of the top… and we’re packed … I had to use a pressure washer to flush them out… single story in the front and 2 1/2 stories in the rear … 2 upper decks, a lower cement patio, just doing the gutters was 3 hours. Very messy , and after all the pressure washing… there was still the windows to do. He kept whining about having to leave… I kept telling him to get picked up and I would finish… well he never got picked up… and was complaining the whole time… never saw him move that fast though haha… I ended up never working there again , and went back to cabinetmaking. I’m actually looking into windows again… part time to start , so it’s great to be back here on the forum…

You should get in at a dedicated window cleaning company. With your experience you should do fine. Sounds like you worked for a poorly managed company.

It was mostly growing pains for them… the owner was very nice actually, and was mostly solo, with the brother on law helping for about 3 years… they were getting very busy, and started forming crews… so training was an issue… as well as estimating issues haha… it just got tiring showing up to the extreme unexpected. And the brother in law , very nice guy, but was in a bad car accident 2 years before, and was never the same mentally or physically … he couldn’t do any ladder work. I usually got stuck with him, which was fine for window jobs( usually… you had to double check his work haha) but I remember standing on a patio awning on a 2x10… scrubbing away as he just chatted, and the owner was like WTF? It was getting late and one guy is scrubbing his butt off and one guy is just talking haha…
they were at least open to listening to raising prices, as what was profitable for a solo guy vs a crew were 2 different animals … a dollar a foot for gutters? No no no… I’d upsell for at least 2 bucks … 4 dollars insideAND out? No ! I would say! Told them about the forum… I don’t think they read anything… pure water ? They laughed… they would scrub high windows with a brush, and rinse it with a hose… sometimes it worked, other times , drive back and ladder up! Anyway… they were very nice, but not doing themselves a lot of favours for the biz, and I moved on… but I liked cleaning windows… and you can make decent money… so I have the itch to squeegee some glass!!

You are making a lot of excuses for them. Read what you just wrote. You went to work with a disabled guy, showed up at the wrong times because of scheduling, encountered the “extreme unexpected” regularly, had to redo other people’s poor work and got underpaid for all of it.

It does not matter how nice someone is if they are stabbing you in the stomach every day.

Hence the reason I ended my employment . I just meant to say they weren’t assholes on purpose… but it was unacceptable working conditions. Hopefully they see the error of their ways…

@Judojones
Thats why you can’t price by lineal feet. Never works. Too many variables. Installation on the other hand, price by foot is the standard.

The client must’ve laughed at the great deal they got on that.

You sound like if you started a biz, they would be out of one very quickly. Go for it man!
