Mounted a Pump to My EZ Pure

We purchased an EZ Pure system recently. After using it on a couple jobs, it became readily apparent that although it is portable, it is not real convenient to load and unload from the truck. Water pressure in our area is also fairly low (50 psi or less) along with high TDS (350 - 550). I think I was also starting to get some higher TDS readings from the EZ Pure because of the low input pressure.

I decided it would be best to plan on semi-permanently locating the EZ Pure in my truck along with an auxillary pump. The pump I used is a Wayne PC4 as recommend by Shawn at RHG. I also plan to use 150-ft of supply hose on a reel, and 300-ft of DI hose on a reel. This way when I need to use the system, I will just have to unroll my hoses and extension cord and get to work. No dragging the heavy filter around.

I decided I did not want the pump rolling around the back of my truck so I came up with a way to attach it to the EZ Pure. I basically drilled and tapped the bottom of the feet on the pump. I then attached some pieces of 4" PVC pipe similar to the way the EZ Pure filters are held together. I also added a pressure gauge along with some additional quick connect fittings. This will allow me to monitor supply pressure so I can determine if I need to use the pump. The pump is also easily removable. I might add some inline TDS meters down the road.

Testing this afternoon went very well. The pump boosted my tap pressure from about 50-psi to around 95-psi. I think I should have no problem running 300’ DI of hose. I was also able to get the output TDS back down to 001 from 008. You can actually still pick up up the unit with the pump attached. I think it adds around 15-lbs.

Just thought I would post this for anyone that is interested. I’ll post some pics of my truck when I get that all set up.

Hey thats pretty cool Casey! The Ettore EZ Pure Really was designed to be portable, but if thats not working for you looks like you came up with a god solution.

Very cool Casey!

Where do you buy the tapping bit

Maybe Chris meant god like solution.

That’s sweet, good job!..

How’s the EZ Pure working out Casey?

Casey, Rally nice job man. Nice of you to share this with others!

The tap was a 1/4-20. You can usually get them with the drill bit for around $5 anywhere they sell tools. I did have to put some thread sealant on one of the bolts because the bit went a little deep and poked through into the main pump housing. No big deal though.

Tony, the EZ Pure has been working out great for the jobs that require it. I have it setup so everything stays in my truck. I mounted two garden hose reels in the back with more than enough hose. So all I have to do is unreel my hoses, plug in the pump and pole, and get to work. Since I am still pretty new to WFP use, I probably spend way more time scrubbing and rinsing than I need to, but the EZ Pure has saved me a lot of time and energy on the jobs I have used it on.

Where did you buy the T connector and other fittings for the pump? What was the sizes etc…

All the plumbing and fittings came from my local home center (Menards). If you don’t have anything locally, McMaster-Carr has anything you could want. Tubing was 3/8" ID, 1/2" OD. I used push connect fittings for 1/2" OD tubing.

I know these comments are old, but do you have any pics of this setup? I’m really not satisfied the EZ Pure and I know it’s combination of not getting enought water pressure and too high TDS. Spent over a grand on this system and I don’t know why.

Unfortunately no pics at the moment. Adding the Wayne PC4 pump on the supply line really helped ours out. You don’t even have to mount it, it is just a couple garden hose connections. We actually purchased a second EZ Pure last year when they were on sale. They work pretty good if you get good pressure going into them.

Thanks for the feedback.

I made a video of this set up (not mounted though) a few years ago. If you are on here or YouTube look up waterfed pole pump from jywindowguy
