Men in Kilts Toronto and Durham Franchise: Permanently CLOSED!

Not sure if this is the right category…

I spoke with head office yesterday, and they confirmed that the Toronto and Durham Franchise “Men In Kilts” is permanently closed.

It was based in Whitby, Ontario, Canada.

I don’t have any more information, just thought that operators in the GTA would be interested.

Talking about kilts I haven’t seen the other kilted guy around posting. The one who makes a lot of videos and promotes moerman products.

The franchise in my area went out of business in about 6 months. Cleaning windows in a kilt is literally one of the worst ideas ever. It’s bad enough to go into bushes to access windows when you have to with pants on, but a kilt. Get real

What area are you in?

Southern California. Ventura county where the franchise was.

If I were looking for a professional service and they wore kilts I would simply by-pass them. If I started wearing some ridiculous business attire to attract attention, guaranteed I would lose business. It may make for a good news story but it’s a horrible marketing concept and looks unprofessional in my opinion.

Remember a few years ago they said they would be in every major market in the US by 2018?

They now have 2 locations in the US.

Yes, in the end it is just a gimmick and it’s charm will wear off. Also, the franchise owners have such high overhead and initial investment costs that they have to charge more than average. Charging more is not a problem when you have better service, but paying more for an employee to clean your house wearing a kilt over a pair of pants? In my experience, people hired “Men In Kilts” for the gimmick, and only get it done once, and move on to another company.

However, they have been really good at getting into the “news” (as you mentioned), so I feel that the original owners are really good at selling franchises, but that doesn’t mean the franchises are healthy.

Do you mean @Trad-Man ? If so, I don’t think he has any connection to “Men in Kilts”, and you can’t fault a true Scotsman for wearing a kilt, it’s in the blood.

Correct and never faulted him

Yeah I’ve no connection to them, they wear kilts to promote themselves. I wear mine 1 because I’m actually Scottish and 2 im doing it for charity, raising money for a disabled lady and also spinal injuries Scotland. See this link for more info.

Chris you have the wrong information they have way more than 2 locations in the US. They are my customer. Also I have been to there yearly convention twice and I was very impressed with there business model and the man who started the organization in Canada. A window cleaning franchise is not for everyone but it does work for some people who want support.

They have several locations in the US. PA, OH, NC, TX, MA, NY, WA, NY at a quick glance.

Not a huge franchise but they are out there.

Hmm, I looked at the locator map on their website yesterday and it only showed Boston and Cincinnati.

Not trying to hate, just going by the info I found.

Wow, that could use some updating to support the franchise members.

Hey @John, I understand that they are your customer, gratz! However, they were extremely fast (in one day) to remove the Toronto and Whitbty/Durham Franchises from their site.

I find it hard to believe that they would not have the same zeal to add new franchises in the States.

There are only 2 listed. If you have another link to more info, please share it. Here is what I found:

Dan, no one is saying you’re wrong.

Their site is lacking seriously and doing an injustice to their customers in The States but there are several franchises here aside from Cincinnati and Boston.

Seattle was a location. Appeared to be going strong and is now closed.
