Is this hard water

hi guys doing this job at a movie theater with lots of windows with max height of 60 feet… using wfp… unger… as you can see in pictures not working … white film on the window not coming out with wfp and with scrubber… comes out though with my finger…sooooo… what can i do for those ones that are 40 feet high and over…is there a chemical or something that i can use…here are the pics …

thx

Wow! The Colossus. That’s a big job. Good luck.

What kind of brush are you using? If it comes off with your finger it should come off with di water and a brush.

hi joshua thanx… we are using the unger nlite rectangular brush… I believe its not agressive enough but honestely we went up with scrubbers as well and no result… only when i pass my hand or finger does it come off… not the scrapers either… these windows havent been done 14 years!! obviously the cinema wants them spotless like when they first open their doors… i hope we can get them close too that ! whaT is that white film on the windows;thx 4 the help joshua…

Never run into that. I would think if it was hard water it wouldn’t come off with your finger like that. Hard water etches and impregnates the glass. I hope your getting paid well for it. You might try pre soaking it with denatured alchohal. When we do construction clean up we pre spray the entire job with denatured alchohal and then wfp it. It’s amazing how much that stuff takes off and softens up things like stucco and paint that you can the just wfp it off

By scrubber do you mean white pad or using a t-bar?

To me it looks like oxidation dried on windows from the frames…

I would think putting a t-bar on pole pre-scrubbing the windows. Followed by wfp would do the trick.
Or i would put up a bronze wool pad on a Unger Aluminum Pad Holder. Using a Y adapter or reach around.

My .02 anyway

yup used the t-bar did nothing… did the t bar and the wfp no effect… actually just little effect made the windows look worst… check out the video

Is there any chance it is between the panes as a result of a vacuum seal leak? I don’t have years of experience, but I did have a vacuum seal breach react this way on some residential windows

i would try barkeepers friend. please let us know what eventually works.gl

Not a seal problem. Not a oxidation problem, at least not one I’ve seen. I think you need a chemical solution but be careful.

If its coming off with your finger, you should spot test it with some 0000 steel wool.

Looks almost like screen burn to me.

EDIT: Would it be oxidation running off of the aluminum frames?

no it isnt… its just reallllllly dirty… used harder brushes and repetitive scrubbing and it came off… thx

yup your right … did that and now they are spotless or almost… thx for the reply… much appreciated

what worked was repetitive scrubbing with scrubber… i guess there was easier ways to do it but settled with muscle… thx

Good stuff! We run into screen burn like that a lot on Andersons. We scrub the hell out of them with either the blue Reach It brush or the Brodex black and red brush and it comes off. Still takes some muscle, but I could use a good workout from time to time lol

Yes … that looks just like screen burn … if agitation did work, then the Bronze Wool pad may be the best answer… I was thinking it was the oil on your fingers at first … leaving an oil mark, but not actually ‘cleaning’ - but thank goodness, I was wrong !

im having the same issue at a location right now,a job that should have taken one day has taken 3 and its still not done.i have tried everything i can think off at this point but it still looks like garbage in my opinion.the windows were horrible, havent been touched in at least 3 years.any other suggestions?some of these windows are around 35-40 feet so reaching them is a issue in its self

screen burn?does this happen on windows that dont have any screens?

May suggest do spot tests in this order.
With One Restore 1 part to 3 parts water mix.
This may get it off if not.
Try CC550.
Wear the appropriate PPE.
