Is "The Legend of Doug" a Scam?

T h e l e g e n d o f d u b r o s k y lives!

Sidenote…
Has this thread become the new forum?

at his age, his career may have changed and totally lost interest. Like got hired by Google or something (lol), is moving far, far away and doesn’t care either or think that this “previous life” will or can affect him if he disappears.

Or he just lives in a casino in Vegas, until his money runs out.

Too young for this much trouble for sure

While I suppose anything is possible- one thing Doug isn’t, is stupid. He’s an intelligent kid, so I don’t think he is just too dumb to realize that his actions won’t be forgotten if he moves or gets a job. His actions indicate to me a severe breakdown in his life. I’m worried about the kid.

I know a lot of people hate him and I totally understand why and don’t blame them. But I worry about Doug because we haven’t heard from him and to be honest, I care more about a young mans life being destroyed than I do about money.

Don’t misunderstand me though, I want Doug to make it right and pay everybody he owes ASAP! But I want him to be alive and well- and not in some crack house or lying at the bottom of a riverbed because of drugs or mental illness.

This reminds me of the Poker Staking site (Forum) I am part of (Although not very active lately) - It’s a staking site where good players are given money by stakers to play agreed tournaments. The whole site is set up to keep track of everything. There are thousands of active members and every once in a while a good reputable player rolls (Steals the money) - They had a couple 20k+ last year. Online poker isn’t regulated here in the US yet, but this hasn’t kept some of the rollers from being prosecuted. It’s a crime to steal money - This isn’t a poker site. If everyone that was stolen from got together there’s no doubt in my mind he would go to prison for what he did.

A true friend would point this out and encourage him to make it right before it’s too late!!

Does anyone who lives in San Diego know how/if they can possibly get ahold of
the kid? I would like him to pay us back so all of us can move on.

He no doubt has stolen multiple thousands of dollars from various individuals. He has
a short window to make this right, or at least speak up before the window closes.

PLEASE if anyone was taken advantage of by Doug please PM me and let me know
the situation and how much is owed. I’m trying to get a better understanding of
how large of a fraud this is.

There’s got to be somebody in San Diego on this site who knows where he or his family lives or goes to his church or whatever to know others close to him to find out the “drugs, health or alive” issue

sites going down for non-payment, rather than him deleting them, as stated earlier would seem to imply the health (drugs, dissapearing) or long hospital (car wreck) angle.

Damian, you around on this thread? You’re down that way and have seen him face to face.

oooh, another possibility where someone just “disappears” . . . jail
DUI, drugs other stuff like that, right?

I wasn’t one of the victims and it’s probably not my place to say anything - But I’m going to anyways. It may be better to publicly post all people who were taken advantage, so if prosecution does happen it will be more documented. I have no legal background so this may right or wrong - just my opinion.

He actually was living up in LA parts of last year as well. so he maybe just floating around LA and SD

In reply to Bruce’s post:

Yeah I’m here. Iv’e been checking in several times a day. I do have his adddress and saw him face to face about a month and a half ago. I wont give out his address here publicly on the forum. I dont think that’s wise. Until we know more about Doug’s situation I’m going to hold back. Yeah now that the streakfree site is down I’m out money like everybody else. At the right time and if the situation requires I will turn over the address he gave to me to the proper authorities. I’ve made a promise to myself to lay low this year and not get involved on any wc message boards. But this situation has brought me out of hiding. I am going to post up a new thread later today about a valuable lesson learned from this that will hopefully benefit everybody. But I gotta run now. Take Care.

He is not in a Crack house or at the bottom of any river, he is conducting business, he is changing his facebook privacy status, sold streak free to a local guy and just dissolved sdglassrestoration and the domain is now for sale. I would say he is simply going to parlay the money he stole or scammed into a new business. Reality is that most SEO firms do the same thing.

They take your money and do nothing with it, just happens it was him instead of someone else who cold called you. Get a book on SEO and do it your self. Simple, the dude will pay in Karma, do a couple jobs and you got your 700 bucks back and keep pushing

For me it wouldn’t be so much about the money but the principle. No one likes a crook!! Again this is just my opinion and easier to view not being a victim.

yeah, I didn’t mean like post his address or anything, just a response from someone who can verify the still alive, not in jail thing. Which it sounds like Mark had some further insight on that with the business being conducted in last few days thing.

So Damian, laying low and no message boards? lol, so much extra time each day!

I’m not sure if the second paragraph is directed towards me but if it is:

#1. He didn’t cold call me- I called him.

#2. I do have books on SEO, and I can do it myself.

#3. I didn’t hire him for SEO. I hired him to port over content.

#4. I don’t make it a habit of getting scammed by SEO companies because I have never dealt with one, and I didn’t get scammed by Doug.

#5. I never payed $700- or even anywhere close.

#6 While I will admit that it would be most unlikely to do all things you said he has done-- from the bottom of a river. I do believe one could easily accomplish those things from a crack-house with an internet connection. If he is addicted to drugs, that would explain the sudden behavioral shift, need for a lot quick cash, and not doing the work he was paid/hired to do.

Look I’m not in any way defending Doug’s actions. I’m simply offering speculation as to what may have happened to him and voicing my concern for both his well-being and to all those who lost money to him.

I want everyone to be payed back with interest and I want to see Doug climb back out of this mess and do well in life.

Doubtful – 92% of crack-houses are still on dial-up.

My crackhouse (Starbucks) has free WiFi

If you read what I said you will realize it is not directed at anyone. I understand people are concerned about the cash thing but thats the past, at this point all that can be done is to salt his name and vent about how frustrating the loss is. In all reality he did scam but saying he stole the money unfortunately does not hold water.

Theft is him bumping you in the head and taking your wallet, reality is you guys gave him the money and he did not perform the service to expectation. Nobody is getting the money back, trust me and if he is on dope, that will run its course. Night before last I had one of my trucks windows smashed and had my iphone, wallet with ten dollars lol, camera and cologne stolen. 500 bucks worth of stuff plus a deductable to fix my window, I am mad but need to move forward and forget it.

Was not trying to offend or make a personal attack on anyone ok

On their original AOL plan.

It’s cool- I didn’t take any offense. I just wasn’t sure if you were speaking to me directly since you quoted my post.
No offense taken Mark.

BTW- sorry to hear bout your truck getting broken into. You should check the app by Apple called “Find my iPhone”. I have it and if I lose my phone or it’s stolen, I can pick up it’s location via Google Maps and send it a message (reward info) for returning it. You can also lock the phone and I believe you can also wipe the phone clean of all your info too in the event you can’t get it back.

I disagree - Just because they gave the money up front doesn’t mean it isn’t theft. Example - When you buy something online or over the phone if you pay with your credit card and they intentionally don’t send the product laughing at you along the way, are you saying this isn’t theft?
