Is "The Legend of Doug" a Scam?

One of my main goals for this last winter was to get a new website built.
After skimming through the posts here on WCR I decided to give Doug McDonald,
a.k.a Legend of Doug a call. He had good sales copy and told me there
would be no problem getting a new site built from scratch.

Once we got going on it I soon realized his sales copy did not line up with his
expertise. He was basically wanting to copy and paste my old site onto a
Wordpress format and then build backlinks for me.

I ended up wiring him $700 to get started on this! He put maybe 2 hours of
work into the site and VANISHED INTO THING AIR!!

Has anyone heard or seen of “The Legend of Doug”? In my book his legend is
shrinking, he has a 100% satisfaction guarantee which he IS NOT standing by.

He basically took $700 from me and RAN. I’ve tried calling and emailing many
times and never once received any word back from him.

Has anyone else had problems with this character?? Does the Legend of Doug
know nothing about SEO practices or is he just a big SCAMMER??

I have heard a lot of this in the past two months. I’m sorry so many people paid Doug for services that he did not deliver on. I’m also sorry that many of you discovered Doug MacDonald on this very forum. We were using Doug for some work before he eventually flaked out and went MIA.

Try stalking him here Login | Facebook
I hope he wakes the hell up and gives everyone back the money they invested in him.
Good Luck

Man sorry to hear about your experience. I had a good one about a year ago, but it sounds as if times have changed. He has/had a great following on this forum, however I guess for whatever reason- he was banned.

I would highly recommend everyone stay as far away from Doug as they can. He owes 10 - 15 + people I know money. He started my project and never finished. He wont return anyones calls including mine.

I’ve never used him, but I saw he was on Facebook Chat a few weeks ago and sent him a message telling him that everyone and their mother was looking for him. He never wrote back. Oh well.

I guess I won’t waste my time asking him to finish up what I paid him for.

Its too bad, I was doing a LOT of web design and SEO work for people during the winter and refrained from mentioning it here as to not step on Doug’s toes. Maybe this winter I’ll have to put up a post or something

I deliver

So, you’ll accept payment after a finished product is delivered and your customer is satisfied?

Somewhat… 50% deposit just to protect myself, balance after satisfactory completion. But my reputation is worth FAR more to me than a few hundred bucks.

So what is so different about you than Doug? Haven’t we heard all this before?

Doug got me too…He owes me money for work he didnt deliver on and stopped returning my calls and emails a couple months ago. He turned out to be a real flake and apparently ripped off a lot of people.

I used John Webb to do my site and he did a great job with great service. Use him instead.

I’m sorry guys that Doug McDonald, Legend of Doug, scammed you, as he did me! How much money
have others invested in him with nothing in return??

It really is to bad. He seemed like a good guy, I don’t think he really knew what he was doing.

I try not to think about the $700 that I would like to have in my pocket, or use towards WCR’s
mailing. Ultimately it is my fault I guess for not doing proper background checks…it just seemed
like everyone was using him.

I am going to keep on him. I would like for anyone else he owes money to keep on him as well.
Heck maybe if this thread gets enough attention it will creep up on the search listings for him so
others won’t be taken like we were.

Doug McDonald, Legend of Doug, equals SCAM ARTIST!

Actually Wayne, I paid Doug a couple g’s to sabotage you.

Then he ripped you off too.

I’ve defended Doug’s mysterious Mia status in the past. It didn’t seem like the guy I got to know on these forums. (but do you ever really know anyone in cyberspace).

To tell you the truth, I hope you are all correct that he is a scam and is avoiding you because the only other alternative is that he is dead or seriously ill. I’m not joking. Even his friends on Facebook can’t seem to get a hold of him. I sent a message to one of his family members hoping that they could shed some light on this situation but I haven’t heard back.

I know he was having some great success with the GlassRenu system and was posting up before and after pictures on a regular basis on his Facebook page then everything came to a halt. Very strange!?!

He doesn’t owe me any money but I understand ever ones frustration.

I’ve thought the same thing Mark, I hope it’s not an illness or anything terrible that started all of this. I’m guessing he is alive and well though…I know he had a facebook page this morning because I looked at it. Since this thread has been started it seems to be gone…I guess he’s watching.

I think it might be a smart practice to not allow anyone to gleem any work from WCR. You guys are too nice. If I saw one post from anyone telling someone to buy this or that from me I would delete the post. I know you guys have nothing to do with Doug, but just allowing him to advertise his service on the site is akin to a recommendation. It’s up to you guys but seriously if I owned this site and someone came on here to hawk their wares, I would not allow it and I would not go into any agreement with them. Sell your own stuff cause you can control the customer service. But that’s me.

I sent messages on facebook to both of his parents a few weeks ago and they both said that he is well and very busy with glassrenu. However I have also sent him messages and he has not returned any of them. He has recently removed all his wall posts and family listings on his facebook page.

Oh no your totally right. We kinda let Doug slip under the radar because hes been a member from day 1. At that point we had no policies in place and didnt really expect WCR to blow up like it has…

It is the new official policy going forward. Nothing sales y in signatures or posting outright.

Man, that is disappointing.

I’m really quite surprised.

Well, for those of you who have been ripped off with the production of a new website for your company, I’d like to help.

I stand behind Chris and Alex, and what they’re doing here at WCR, in a large way. For that reason, let me offer some help, as follows:

Your Special, Extremely Limited Time “I hate being taken for a fool” Offer:

If you invested money in Doug because of a perceived WCR recommendation, and can prove that you invested a specific dollar amount, I’ll credit you that exact amount against my regular web development fee, and deliver you a turn-key, customized website design that you love and that works well for your business for the balance of my regular fee.

If you payed Doug $700. I’ll credit you $700 against your development from me.
If he stiffed you $500, I’ll credit you $500, and so on.

Consider this an act of goodwill, and a reflection of my support for WCR. I’ll lose money, sure, but I’d like to help, and I know how frustrating (actually, correction - I can imagine how frustrating) you must feel right now.

Therefore, I offer you no tricks. No games. No further deposits. No funny business.

I won’t even ask you to pay another dime until I deliver the final product, and you’re totally satisfied. I’ll take a risk on you, like you did with Doug.

If you’re interested, email me at [email protected]

This offer is only open to you if your deal with Doug went sour. And it expires tonight at midnight. You obviously we’re serious about your website, so let’s get it done for you.

If you email me after 11:59pm EST tonight, I won’t be able to honor this offer. Make sure you drop me a line now.
