Invoice Question

So I was going on my routes today and this guy asked if I had an invoice or something like that. Just a regular $20 place and he asked if I have an invoice I believe. What is that lol and how do I get one. Thanks

You need to give customers an itemized receipt of services you provided and they paid you for.

Required for both you and customer to do your books, taxes and operate your business legally.

Is this what you were asking?

I assume thatā€™s what it is. But I donā€™t have insurance or pay taxes, etc. Iā€™m just doing stores here and there and some residential. Is it fine if I do that?

Stores are businesses, getting their shop windows cleaned is deductible, so ALL of them if they are running a business to make profit will want an invoice.

If you give them an invoice but dont claim anything personally can get you caught up in a bad thing. If caught, you will be given an estimated income which will be higher than what you likely bring in to pay taxes on.

Check local rates of how much you can bring in before reporting.

There is enough profit in window cleaning to set yourself up properly.

Itā€™s for the customers books primarily. The person taking cash to pay you from the register or petty cash needs to have a legit receipt. Otherwise they put themselves in jeopardy when the numbers donā€™t match - cash in with cash out.

It also doesnā€™t look professional at all to not provide an invoice/receipt. Go to dollar general or Walmart, get the generic invoice books with carbons, and fill one out for each job that you do. That will get you started.

i remember those and i even had a rubber stamp with my info too make it look sharper. lol

was happy as a fat kid in a candy store

I confess, I still use them for my storefronts. Iā€™m too cheap to do anything else. I use QB for all of my residential invoicing.

i just use quickbooks for all of it. run ccā€™s through my bank its cheaper than square and hcp

Iā€™m set up for PayPal. But Iā€™ve never had anyone need to swipe a card on sight even tho Iā€™ve got the ap. And most of them simply mail a check or leave it for me. Only a few use the PayPal option at all. I expected more, but oh well. As long as Iā€™m getting paid.

Do you have a hobby or are you running a business? (Either legit or implied?)

Side hustle that I work on from time to time. Iā€™m 21. I got college, socializing, and multiple things going on. I just want to make some money on the side and build this up.

Just another example of someone NOT running a business.

Itā€™s not hard to run one properly.

My hope is you get caught and learn a lesson WHY you need to do things right, rather than think the rules donā€™t/shouldnā€™t apply to you. You are not a unique snowflake, you are not special. This makes every other business, who did things right and proper, look bad.

Or someone that doesnā€™t look at the big picture, so many possibilities of disaster waiting to happen.

It actually hurts inside reading posts like that from individuals like @1984 . It really does.

You guys make it seem easy because it might be for you but I donā€™t know where to start or how to taxes or anything yet. I made roughly $100 last month and this month. Youā€™re telling me I need to pay taxes on that and run it professionally? Yes Iā€™m aware if I do something bad then Iā€™ll be liable but heres the thing: DONā€™T MESS ANYTHING UP!

If something seems off donā€™t do it. I want to do all those things in a years time which is why Iā€™m running it under the radar. But if anyone has resources on this topic then Iā€™ll gladly appreciate it.
