Interesting Referral today

So the building owner of my first big job when I started called me yesterday and asked me to go out and look at a store he had bought and was leasing. This is what I arrived to. How much would you guys bid this at? The place will be closed the day in working on it. All of the glass has those golf ball dimples of glue from window advertising wraps on them. The insides are just as bad as outside, plus the farthest third of the building had Tint inside that was terribly installed and needs stripped. Some of the out side glass has vandalism like someone wrote with coarse steel wool on it. Would you just write it off?
Fyi, the owner did say he had more properties I can do once he sees “how this goes”. His regular guys won’t touch it I guess.

Taking on a job like that, I would probably offer to probe it by cleaning a window or two just to see how they clean up. If all goes well with the test run, extrapolate your price from the time taken on those trial panes.

Ugh Tint!! could go smooth could be a PIA.

i just tell them my hourly wage I give them a ballpark of time I think it might take , and I say could be more could be less.

An that’s it if hey don’t want it done , them I could careless .

I just passed on two plates of tint removal. I told him I don’t do it. , but i I’m still cleaning his store every week so I’m good with that

Scratch waiver

I wouldn’t shy away from giving him a high price since someone already refused, I bet he would understand. Just make sure those scratch waivers get signed and make sure he is aware of the scratches already there. You get what you pay for. Make your service more important than the price.

I’d personally pick a half-tricky pane to clean inside/out and see how long it takes at a good pace, then bid the rest of the place accordingly. Otherwise, I’d bit it hourly at $50/hr for tint adhesive removal etc.

When I started this thing, I was hungry. I still need to eat but I’m not hungry. I’ve had one previous job on residential where I made 200 bucks.

Like Skipper said I think this could be a make-it-or-break-it for my business. While I was there I quoted the guy $200 and even if it takes me all day that’s still 25 bucks an hour plus experience I get. If it runs into other work it’s all gravy.

These windows are 50 years old and the dude’s pretty laid-back what are the chances of them suing for scratched glass? ( I don’t have a scratch waiver yet)

I hope you get the job and he gives you a ton more work.

Big mistake. Go wcra and download the scratch waiver and plug your information into it. Laid back or not, you are leaving yourself wide open.

Maybe i should have said starving. I could afford to walk away from that one job but not the entire future that job could be…

Normally the vandalism that is done to glass is done by a rock, its called a scratchy, any hard rock will cause them and they are generally quite deep around 2-4 mm deep, so unless your into scratch removal this may not be within your ability, I doubt the owner will want to fork out thousands for glass replacement.

$200 seems like a good price, I was even thinking $150. Those types of frames usually clean up to a beautiful shine just by wiping them and would make the job look fantastic, therefore, probably getting his other buildings. If they are tempered though, that changes everything. Find that out first!

Those frames are painted wood, not much danger of them shining.

The glass is 50 years old so it would predate fabricating debris. Back in the day nobody had a scratched glass waiver because we didn’t need one. A razor can not scratch regular glass. What’s your worry?

Wow, forgot about that job. Yeah turns out all that damage was on security film. Brand new Windows under the film once I scraped it all off.
