Insurance requirements for commercial route work

Hey guys, I want to start getting into route work like commercial/chain store fronts, restaurants, etc. Mostly ground level stuff. My question is insurance requirements for commercial/ chain establishments. I spoke to a few different agents about a 1 million GL policy which I know is needed but one agent told me In order to do commercial business even if your the only employee they make you have workers comp insurance. Which will add a lot of money per year to my insurance policy. I asked other agents and this and they said they weren’t sure about this that GL should be enough. From your experience what is actually needed. I live in CT the local agent said I would need it, the other agents who said I wouldn’t we’re not in state.

Route work probably wouldnt require anything. Commercial accounts are a different story and typically require workers comp, not sure about CT but owners can be exempt from having it for themselves but some will require it anyway. I think I would probably just go forward with GL. If a client requested it I would say Im expempt, it they dont care then I would move forward with picking up a WC policy

Does chain style restaurants ( IHOP, chillies, etc) and places like home depot constitute comerical properties? Or does commercial constitute bigger property’s?

It does in my opinion. Also lots of these places go through service providers instead of hiring directly

Just get a WC exemption from the state. It’s easy. Then if you decide to jump off a scissor lift that’s your business.

To me No they are not … there Storefronts

Commercial buildings to me you can’t buy goods or a service from for the most part .
ya know offices type people work in commercial buildings

If your just doing store fronts in my honest opinion you don’t even need insurance.
Although it’s cheap, so ya might as well get it.
Store fronts won’t ask you for insurance . If your dealing with a NSP an thrrr subbing you worj they will ask you for a COI.
Some chain stores will want a W-9
