So I’ve been brainstorming how I want our new vehicle laid out. Gonna do some things a little different.
First off, going to try not to remove the seats. I may ditch the spare tire tho…
I want to find a water tank (or 2 tanks plumbed together) that will fit on the floor behind the front seats. This is proving to be difficult. I have about 51" across, around 17" of useable height, and only 10" between the rear braces on the front seats and the back seats. There is a measly 7" of space between the center console and the rear seats, so if I go with a one tank setup, the console will need to be modified or replaced with a smaller one.
I want the hose reel mounted in the rear hatch area, up higher, maybe on top of a drawer cabinet, a la @Shinywindows’ box . I will mount a hose guide to the inside of the hatch panel, so when I pull out the hose it doesn’t have to make contact with any body panels.
That’s all I can think of for now. Please let me know if you guys have any suggestions or pointers. Thanks
I noticed the fresh water tank for our small rv was nice and rectangular, so looking at 30-40 gallon rv tanks, it looks like some have close measurements to your requirements although one side usually is too long by a few inches. (wish there was a shoulder shrugging emoji haha like “hope that was helpful but eh”…)
Yeah, that sounds about right. I also have the option of going between the seat mounts with a 2 tank setup. IIRC, I have about 16" between the mounts, and maybe 12"-14" of depth, since I don’t need to push the seats all the way back. I can also go taller than 17" if I need to, but I’ll need to angle the tanks a bit towards the rear seat.
I’d like at least 35-40 gallons if possible. I know that’s asking for a lot in the space I’ve specified.
I really wish I could swap the seats for something more low-profile, like those little folding bench seats they had in the back of the 1990’s tacoma pickups. They were uncomfortable and cramped, but they were good for occasional use. But with all the additional airbags and sensors, I don’t think that’s a viable option.
I finally found a ‘warming rack’ (@buzzlightyear) that I like. It has tracks that are mounted with “rivet nuts” and bolts, so I don’t have to pull the headliner out.
Sorry, no pic updates. I’ll snap a couple photos when I have the rack installed. This has been a ‘back burner’ type of project due to how busy I’ve been. I finally got the car registered in VT this week!
Alright. I have to give a plug for VanTech USA. I haven’t got the rack installed yet, but it looks like a very solidly built, nicely finished piece of hardware.
The ‘rivet nuts’ look much more solid than I was imagining. They’re sort of like the nicer expanding anchors for hanging stuff on drywall- except they’re made for sheet metal. They’re not really what I would describe as ‘rivets’. I’ll try and snap a couple pics when I install them.
Oh, and I got the rack a day after they processed my order
