Hello all. My name is Dave and I am from Allentown, PA. I am the Fish Window Cleaning franchisee in this area. I’ve been in business since May 2014 and absolutely love it.
My wife and I had our first baby 6 months ago; she’s beautiful, healthy, and has had a full head of hair from birth!
I love to learn about business and that is why I have lurked on this forum. Learned some things, laughed at some things, and I think most of the people here are pretty cool.
Don’t worry, some people hate fish but some people hate everything. I don’t like them in general (headquarters) but consider a lot of franchisee’s my friends. Oskar was a cool dude, definitely a new yorker. I also liked all the peeps up in the Denver area and Phoenix.
You’re in a good area with a lot of support up there. At one point there was like 10 z’s up in Jersey. I didn’t know Jersey was that big, but I guess when you’re executive territory is 10 miles, must be packed pretty tight.
Did a lot of research and figured if someone already setup a business that works I should do that rather than have to stumble on my own. I don’t have experience in window cleaning and I did not want to be a window cleaner. It’s worked out very well. My business would not be where it is right now if I started on my own; I got to where I wanted to be VERY quickly.
excellent response.
i think that is why most people take franchises. where meany fail is not doing the work to make the franchise successful. and by work i don’t mean cleaning the glass or flippin’ the burgers i mean running the business.
personally i am trying to get back to where i was 20 years ago when i rarely did any of the actual work my business did.
i want to transition from being a self employed window cleaning to the owner of a window cleaning business.
while in some ways those 2 things are the same they are also very different.
You are correct Ken. I didn’t have to spend time figuring a lot of things out but I did have to spend money. I think many people don’t realize that either way they are spending money because time=money.
I wish you well in your goal. Luckily I have not cleaned a window since mid-2015.
In my case, I started out as a sole proprietor and didn’t have enough job. I ended up doing subcontract jobs for a big company in my area. They have lots of clients and the franchise was up for grab in my area so I decided to join instead of competitioning.
