How many storefronts can you clean in a day

Well i’d say it varies but on average maybe 10-12? the route is set up on a bi monthly basis, so we alternate which we do in/out but they all get done inside monthly some bi-weekly. The stores range from Dunkin Donuts sized(this being a larger dunking with dual entrance vestibules), to a store with 3 large panes and a door. Some store require moving things, mannequins, knick knacks, posters, holding back neon signs, etc. My Boss has been cleaning windows for over 20 years though. I have learned a whole lot from him in only 1 year, even after cleaning windows for 3 years before i met him.

As far as one guy waiting for you to wet tops. No what we do is one guy will start inside on a door if we are not doing insides that day, If we are doing inside you wet the glass under him, it does not take long for him to get ahead of you doing tops while you do bottoms/detail. We also occasionally do it where one guy will wet ahead, but that is really only on particularly hot days. If the place is lasrger IE: a car lot, one will do inside the other outside, pole and everything.

Everyone has to do what they like or its not worth it right!

Its all about how you price the small work, price it so it counts.

You are right in regards to it being ‘good’ visibility though…

Still really new, I have had 2 storefronts side by side 25 panes total. Took me 2 hours including collecting payment. These windows were caked in dirt though, if they were maintained I would probably be faster.

I charged $50, 2 hours work including collecting money and driving. Drive is about 5 minutes and collecting money probably took 15 minutes.

Will they become repeat customers? If so your time and margin will surely increase.

Yes that’s why you need to hit them with a first clean price , and then give them a maintenance cleaning price.

25 plates $50 is good for maintained cleaning, but you should of been between 100-200 for the first clean

Lesson learned, next time I will charge more for dirty windows and less for following cleanings. Once I was finished I asked if they wanted me to come back next week and make it a regular thing,.and they said no the windows are clean now, we should be fine, check back in a couple weeks. I’m happy to make $25 an hour for now but I know I should aim higher. I am interested to hear everyone else’s answers to Luke’s question.

It’s is a lessened learned , also storefront work is about monthly cleanings , it’s not about them having you come back an checking in to see if they want them done . Imagine your whole day being like that . I have 35 stores , but let’s see if they need me today.

You have to be a little better of a salesman ( fake it to you make it ). This is what you needed to say to that. " All of my customers are on a monthly cleaning schedule it’s up to you we could do a bi-weekly or a monthly Cleanig which would you prefer". If he says " Just check back in a couple of weeks ".
You need to tell him . " I don’t mind checking back , but it’s to see if you want to be on my schedule , that’s the way I run my business if I had to check in to see if everyone wanted there windows cleaned I wouldn’t have a business Makes sense right ".

Don’t bow down to these store front customers be stern… seriously man act as if they need you . It sets a presidents, an I believe that presidents is set right with the first clean price. We can do a first clean for 150…00., but after that the maintenance cleaning price will be 50 a month.

I’m not knocking you just trying to help !!!

When i started i did only storefronts
Then learnt about residential commercial
At first thought the shopfronts are going to be dropped and im sticking to the lucrative stuff untilll…

I needed a worker and found out

Pros😄

Its super schedueld weekly bi weekly
So getting your worker scheduel out is very easy

You dont really need to sweat so much about quality controll cos the windows are clean when worker gets there already

Saves running round quoting people all day

It works in winter as well as summer

Workers happy cos work is easier

When u have shop front round and need to teach a new worker about the trade u just stick him on shop front round .afterwards he has baisics and can help u in residential

Cons😕

Competition

Money

Boring

Shop owners are tight assed s#$@@/

90% of my stores are monthly/4weeks, and i’ve learned to stop trying to get people to do the window how often I want them to be done.

before i start a route job i ask them “are you looking to have the windows cleaned on a regular basis or just the one time?” if they say yes to regular cleanings, i ask how often. i don’t charge extra for the first clean because i want to build a relationship, i’ll make it up in subsequent cleanings. i do charge more though the less frequently they are cleaned so monthly price might be X and bi monthly 1.2x and quarterly 1.4X and a one time clean 1.75X.

i have enough work that i don’t feel like i need to make them all monthlys

I try to get everybody to convert to weekly. In the past 6 months or so we have converted almost 30 stores to weekly. 20 of those we kept at the same price as bi weekly. This has been one of our best ways for easy sales increase . O and we converted 17 monthlys into biweeklys.
