It may not effect all customers response but it definately effects some customers response to your business, which makes it an advantage when it comes to increasing customers response and perceived value.
Image is important.
Clean cut, clean clothing with identifiable marking who you are and being polite is what is important as far as image.
Not necessarily a lettered or wrapped vehicle but a descent one in appearance, reliable looking.
I would really say it being clean matters as you aren’t offering that service.
Appearance changes your view on what you do if you think it would or not.

Ok, back to the topic. Image is your first impression, so what kind do you want to give. If you don’t have a decent looking vehicle people May think things like you are not profitable, you only do this part time and are unprofessional (Not that there is anything wrong with part time), that your work will reflect your vehicle, etc. Similar thoughts with clean, professional clothes.
I know because though my clothes are good, my van doesn’t look the best because it is what I could afford on a shoe string budget. Most of my business has come by word of mouth so that has helped to dampen the blow, and I don’t have too much competition, but I think people would treat me better and try to argue my price less if I had a nicer van. In fact I was looking last night with this same thought process in mind to get one hopefully in the next year.
The old saying: “Image is everything” makes a valid point. As much as we all might hate to admit it, human nature is to judge people and businesses by how they look, whether it be clothing or our vehicles.
Our customers DO judge us by our appearance.
But it still comes down to personal choice. How do you want others to view your business?
We choose to be clean cut, no foul language, no smoking and no drugs. This has helped us to grow since we are able to retain customers and gain new ones.
