How did you end up being a window cleaner?

As for me, I was freshly separated from the USAF in Omaha. I had worked in a nursery greenhouse for a couple months but the heat became unbearable.

I was walking around downtown on a fine spring day and saw a couple guys doing some of the eclectic storefronts. I called around, found a really nice older guy that owned a company, and the rest is history.

Friend worked at a bank that a window cleaner uses to deposit his checks at, he asked if my friend knew anyone who needed a job. Called me up, and I was hired a day later. I ran all his storefront routes in Portland Oregon. He was pulling in a decent amount of cash monthly. 3 years later I’m running my own business

I was a carpet cleaner and my room mate was a window cleaner. He had lots of work one winter and I had none so he offered me a job. Stayed with him 6 years and learned everything I could. Then started on my own after that.

Isn’t baseball a non combative sport?
For the few baseball games I have ever seen(most of which would come from a game I played as a kid on my C64) I really can’t imagine a broken leg, I’d love to hear the story.

In Highschool folks wc’er offered me double pay and the commute was a matter of minutes. Stayed thru early college. After college wc made the most sense to me.

I had to leave my decent paying job that was out of town so that I could stay home and help my wife with her medical issues. I got hired by a multi service cleaning company and I saw lots of dirty windows and opportunity. After I bought the company I put a lot of effort into expanding into WC.

Non combative… Yes

This is the only play where there could be contact
They change the rules an your not aloud to take out the catcher anymore.
The league I was in back then it wasn’t aloud either. Only slide !!

This is the play where I broke my leg
I was on 2B.
Same thing as video coming home to score the catcher was behind the plate though. I had room to slide , an my cleat got caught up an my ankle snapped breaking my Fibia & Tibia

When I got up … With help :man_facepalming: I remember it like it was yesterday. I saw my ankle swing back an forth. Honestly it wasn’t painful. From what I remember, but seeing the ankle got me a litttle queezy
Ambulamnce came , an then the DR gave me the great news. You’ll be staying over night. Surgery in the morning. :open_mouth::joy:

What a great summer 89 … sucked !!!

I dislocated my shoulder 7 times now that was painful

I saw in ad in the newspaper for window cleaners wanted, $10 an hour. I started the summer after graduating high school in 1991. Been cleaning windows consistently ever since.

I learned how to clean windows while I was in prison for home burglary.

Just kidding!

A good friend of mine gave me the idea years ago. I have been cleaning windows since 2003

Beat me to it. Timing is everything when telling this to the customer.

“So how did you get into window cleaning?”

“I learned it while I was in prison…

…

… For home invasion” [big grin]

“Just kidding. I learned it from my dad. He learned it while he was in for home invasion. He taught me EVERYTHING he knows…”

When I first met my wife about 30 years ago we were traveling from Oregon to Texas selling signs to businesses. Saw some guys cleaning store fronts and started thinking about it more & more. Eventually just bought a bucket & some squeegees, bunch of stuff I wouldn’t buy again, practiced on some windows & started cleaning stores. Got a few residential jobs and inevitably ended up doing mostly residential. Did it for a number of years and took a break - just now starting again.

Out of college, I was a Walmart manager and FM manager for the University of Arkansas. My wife disliked the hours, so I went back and got a teaching degree and ended up in Las Vegas-the WORST school district in the country. After 2 concussions from students (I taught severe emotionally disturbed students), I opted to check out of that profession and bought the business (“JOB”) from my friend. I had helped as a side hustle to make ends meets as a teacher. 18 months in and it is only the third or fourth worst decision of my life! :sunglasses:

I was working at Publix when a friend’s dad offered me to help him clean windows. 15 years later here I am.
