Hiring employees

I was thinking about hiring some one to help out with some of my jobs, i dont have enough to hire full time, Maybe part time, but what is the best way to pay them, by the hour? if so how much?..or do i pay them a percentage of each job? if so what is considered fair?

The way I look at it is if I want to hire someone reliable, professional, skilled and sober, you will need to pay enough to attract someone that fits that description. If you are not willing to pay someone enough to make a living you will end up with a “hip holder” (someone that just stands there and stares and holding there hip). I am not saying start them out at a doctors wage, just keep in mind that your offer will attract someone that will typically live up those expectations. Also in the off chance you find someone great and pay them beans, the chances are they will find something better pretty quickly.

Figure out what you can afford “comfortably” to pay and go from there. Offer incentives for a raise or maybe even commission of some sort. Everyone that I have ever hired dirt cheap ended up leaving quickly or doing more harm than good.

Hiring full-time vs. Part-time is much different, you’re not paying someone a livable wage to cover their living expenses totally if it’s part time. Hiring part-time does not allow the same profits for the business to justify the same compensation and pay.

Just because you pay somebody a good wage doesn’t mean they’re going to give you good work. I don’t mind starting a person at a lower amount with the opportunity of advancing very quickly depending on their performance. Leave it in their hands how much they want to do and how much pay they want to get.

Work ethic today is not the same as what it has been years ago. People feel entitled to a “livable wage” or higher wage without having to earn it or be experienced for it.
