Help. New to the game. 7 story Building. Gaborone

That’s pretty cool they have they’re own structural engineer, I’ve never
seen that for a rental outfit.

Not bad at all. I’d stick with them for sure.

Thanks guys. Didn’t get the job, but did get a phone call from the property Manager a day later, asking us to help out the guys that her boss had hired. It was a landscaping company that had just moved into window cleaning. I mean they had zero experience with a squeegee,

so we rented out kit, and offered to assist, and split the price of the Job. But gotta say, it was harder than it looked. Took 3 and a half days.

Was a good experience, and managed to get a few more properties they manage.

Interesting turn of events… brings to mind the saying “half a loaf is better than no bread”.

Did you go rope access or lift?

How would a building like this best be done?
A sorta estimated price?
14 storey.

OK, I do now have a team of washer who abseil. Who, however have only just over a week of washing windows with a squeegee, but are doing pretty good.

I still also have my water fed system. I was thinking to maybe do a mix? Because I would still like to keep warmed up on the lift cleaning?

Anyway, hope to hear your thoughts on this.

Thanks

@OPM They had a lift there, so we went ahead and used the water fed system. Was an experience.

That’s great. You are moving ahead very well.

The way I do estimates is figure how many hours then X hourly rate. Plus some more hours for setup and misc. Take your best guy there and do a walk around together. The two of you can come to a close figure in terms of how many hours. Also don’t forget to see the roof anchors and anything to do with the job with an onsite contact.

Good luck!

Cool. Thanks man.

Yeah have gone around with him, but we’re both quite new to this, and always seem to run into unexpected challenges, - doing a 6 storey hotel at the moment, and we kinda thought we would have it done in 5 - 6 days, turning into 8 -9 days.

So we’re thinking about 30 days to be safe? But have been told thats a bit long?

and I only have a 4 man crew.

But yeah like I said these guys are quite new to the squeegee,
but I am also planning on getting some rope access training my self, and that way I can assist and to get a better Idea of how long its going to take to do jobs like these. And to gain experience in cleaning windows with out being on the ground, the one guy says its way different to cleaning on the ground, and I kind of imagine it as being kinda similar to an astronaut. Haha

Glad it worked out for ya.

Can’t imagine how that roof is set up. Its on a slant so if your hanging in a chair like the picture, how do you stay in place of your row of windows?

@krees. Just saw that your trying to approach this job. To do it bu boson chair is risky and I personally wouldn’t do it. Very unsafe. The other alternative is to see what kind of tie points they have on the roof for a proper set-up of a scaffolding. It looks like a newer building. Since I use to do highrise years ago osha has recommended that most nearer buildings have tie points for scaffolding or chair work. Being the roof is slanted I’m not sure about that as I’ve never done such a building. But, rest assure the difficulty of the job, you better sock it to them and not budge on the price. Very risky in my opinion without looking at the roof.

I’d likely use the building mounted stage for access.

Looks like it has davit arms

Actually it’s required above 4 stories since 2016.

They blanket it like that rather than put a height limit so it’s easier for OSHA to verify

We have new 4 story buildings that are required to pay for annual certification, to keep the manufacturer warranty valid but we don’t utilize the anchors. Water fed instead.

Yeah I haven’t genied since 05.

Maybe one day I’ll afford and get a wfp lol.

But the wfp doesn’t have the same look as the guy with good wag technique, amiright?

Yes,your absolutely right. Compared to the home owner and or business owner the more time you spend on the job the better in their eyes. With wfp they think wow,you got done so fast they think there wasting there money. With wfp it allows you to stick and move with the same results as well as comparing it to srubbing the frame work at the same time than that of traditional methods. Not to mention the cost of this new technology you need to express this. I would categorise this as a gold package. When you let them know about trad methods using sufficents compared to reverse osmosis then they would most likely agree. Kindly explain the benefits of wfp. It allows the windows to stay cleaner longer. But,overall their use to seeing a mop and squeegee is a thing of the past.
